The team seems to still be unsure if Hannah will be a 5 or 4. Hannah says most comfortable at 5, but sound like she low key wants to play more 4 (She needs to be 3/4 at nest level). Addy has improved, but Ava may already be ahead? Syd is still out, PT may be more Teagan, not sure about Jayda. McCabe/Kylie both seeing time at the 2. Stremlow not a 1, but likes to though long passes and push ball. Lucy playing the 1 with no backup (players getting minutes, but they don't trust anyone else at PG yet. Sounds like they like Callie a bit for backup PG spot minutes. I wouldnt be surtprised if Guyton plays backup PG when fully healthy and gets practice. General vibe is more defense, scoring in different ways, and seems like they dont expect to be as good as last year, but think they have the peices to develope into a really dangerous team that can be much better than most people expect.

Asked Jada Gyamfi today what Iowa will miss most without Caitlin Clark:

“She was probably responsible for like 90% of our points, whether it was scoring or passing the ball. But on a personal level, that's one of my closest friends. I just miss seeing her every day. I mean, we would stretch next to each other every day and just catch up on each other's lives. She would always come and hang out. So, I definitely miss that aspect a little more than all the basketball stuff.”

So where does Iowa's late-game/shot clock offense come from without Caitlin Clark?

Abby Stamp sees Lucy Olsen with that takeover gene, too:

“Lucy has that switch where it's like, ‘Nobody's scoring? I’m going to go get this done.’ ... That is what you need in those situations. At the end of the quarter, she's very versed to take the big shots. She’s ready, she’s willing.”

All the talk about losing Caitlin Clark in late-game situations, there's another aspect that Abby Stamp outlined that will be a change: Not having Kate Martin making the inbounds pass.

“What we’ll miss, too, is Kate Martin’s inbounding ability in late-game situations. She did that for three years. There’s a lot of pressure on that in-bounder. Often times you come out, and that defense is set up differently, and she’s in charge of making a read. She’s got to have patience and inbound the ball where it needs to be.”

My biggest worry about this team is ball handling. Obviously, CC carried that load last year.

If/when Lucy is out, who can handle pressure defense??

Hannah is not a 3 at the next level. She will need to develop into a 4 if she wants to play in the W. She's never needed to handle the ball or create her own shots from the perimeter. Looking forward to her season, especially healthy.

Long term guyton, short term Callie and Stemlow. I got the impression Callie might be the closest of the freshman for now. Not sure how/where Johnson fits it.

Her ACL injury was late in the season so she may not be practicing yet...
