So, it's been a part of the off-season transfer system for the years of 2019, 2020, and 2021.
I still don't understand why some cannot fathom that Fran and his staff are simply comfortable with the current roster. They can't simply grab a player and say "Hey, you're coming to play for Iowa." The player (a) has to offer something above and beyond what's already on the team (in all regards); and (b) has to have an interest in playing for Iowa.
Isn't it possible that Iowa did in fact reach out to some players who met criterion (a), but not (b)? Or there were players with an interest in Iowa who did not offer anything more than the players currently on the team?
p.s. the above was not meant for you @BBHawk, but a general statement to those saying that Fran has failed in his utilization of the transfer portal.

Fran is being left behind. If kids don't want to be recruited over, then get better. Isn't Fran's job supposed to be putting the best team on the floor he can and winning? Worrying about hurting kids feelings because a player he brings in might be better than them shouldn't be a concern. I mean he has no problem playing Connor over guys.

So you can’t answer, got it. Pro tip - when providing links they should support your premise. Your links show that the B1G as a conference wasn’t very active or efficient in getting transfers. My apologies if you put effort into those links, they didn’t show what you were hoping for.
Sure they do. Fran got Uthoff and that's it. Technically, by the rules back then, Fran couldn't contact Uthoff so he probably gets half credit.
The original question was to show who in the B1G was significantly better in that time frame. Your links don’t show that. The B1G was late to the party on this.
if no contact was allowed at the time any of those programs get half credit as well.
It was the intra conference transfer rules that stipulated the no contact along with schools being able to block kids from transferring to certain schools before the portal.
I guess fran ought to put out a blanket invitation to all 1400 players in the portal. "COME TO IOWA AND PLAY IN THE BIG TEN!" Then he just needs to sort through the applicants.
This is where I'm at with Iowa athletics outside of wrestling and I'm by no means a wrestling fan. I like watching them knowing they can compete against anyone anywhere. Apathy has set in. Watch the prime match ups for football and basketball, maybe, and wait to see what mid tier bowl the football team makes it to for the bowl party. Maybe it's my middle 30's, maybe it's new home ownership, it is probably a combination of things but I've watched the same movie for 20+ years in football and 10+ years in basketball. That time, energy, and money can be used to improve myself, my marriage, or my home. Iowa athletics, for the revenue generating sports, is eating the same bowl of vanilla ice creamevery Saturday and pretending to be excited about it.
Iowa has been to two Orange Bowls and one Rose Bowl in the last 20 years. While I would like to see Iowa I’m more bowls of this caliber, I do not personally consider those to be mid tier bowls. I do agree that the other things that you
mention (self, marriage and home) should be a higher priority in your life over any sports team though.

The most recent one of those happened 6 years ago and we got destroyed. The other two happened more than a decade ago. KF has 1 major bowl win in 20+ years.

I do not consider making a bowl game versus bowl wins a minor detail. Iowa made the NCAA tournament this year in basketball, but only won one game. This is something that you and others have harped about over and over since the season ended. Based on your logic above, you should be happy that Iowa made the tournament since a minor detail about winning versus losing the game inconsequential.

Which problem is that? I have no issue with you wanting the Hawkeyes to do better. I believe that is something that everyone on this board would like. It just comes down to how we react to losses and not exaggerating to try and make a point.

The legend of Tom Davis grows yearly. He was an average coach who did better with players he did not recruit. Yes he was let go in a poor manner. He was also too lazy to recruit Raef LaFrentz despite being tipped off early. So if you want to use his name as a source of contention with Iowa basketball, get over it. Nowhere in my messages did I reference any of what you just posted with the exception of the bowls more than a decade ago and this was because you brought up the 20 year time period, which I responded. That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I only take issue if someone exaggerates to have to make a point or if someone constantly complains about everything about the program. Both of these get old to me. I do share your desire for the Hawkeyes to do better as should always be the goal.
