Gonna go over to Ryan Field to the game on Saturday. I've never been to Ryan Field before and have a few questions for those who have been there.

1. Is there a certain section where Iowa fans will be sitting. I'm assuming that the side opposite the press box is considered the away sideline and where the Iowa team will stand.

2. Any tips on places to park?

Thanks.

My $0.02 experience. We took the L up from downtown. If I recall it was pretty easy in & out, & the walk to the train station was pretty short.

We sat wherever we wanted, & with that, I'll leave my experience at that.

Thanks for the information. I'm not really familiar with the L routes but I can do some research.

If it is a nice day then parking a few miles away from the stadium is not a bad thing to do because the campus is surrounded by really nice neighborhoods. The Northwestern fan base is a pretty reserved bunch as a whole - everybody has idiots but far fewer can be found in Evanston. Iowa fans will be throughout the stadium - not hard to get tickets and a solid bunch of alumni in the Chicago area. They also have an interactive area for the fans before the game - family friendly.

If you are coming from other parts of the city you need to realize that you will have to go downtown to switch to the Purple line and then back out. At least, I am pretty sure this is what we had to do 2 years ago.

And it seemed to take quite a while.

Depends on where you are staying. Parking ramps in Evanston will be cheaper than in Downtown Chicago and you can walk to the stadium or take a free shuttle bus. Plenty of places post game to hang out as well. Bat-17, Prairie Moon , Celtic Knot, World of Beer, Tommy Nevins are a few of our places when in Evanston. Lou Malnatis and Giordanos if you must have pizza.

We have a hotel in Skokie and will be going to game with our 10 and two 9 year olds. Hotel is 4 miles away so walking with kids is out of question. I assume no shuttles in area. We don't mind paying for parking, what is best options? What time to parking ramps in Evanston fill up. Any other parking options?

How about taking an Uber to/from the stadium?

Here is the info for parking downtown and the shuttles to/from Ryan Field. I'm going to park in the Church Street ramp. I've been to several Iowa/NU games and other NU games. I have never seen the Church Street Ramp fill up on game day. Especially a morning game. The Maple Avenue ramp is very big I can't imagine it will fill up either. You can catch the shuttle within a couple of blocks walk from either ramp.
Looks like the shuttle from the Church Street ramp picks up by the public library this year. The Maple Street ramp will pick up at Clark and Maple, right by Chili's.
The buses start downtown so that is the best place to catch one. They tend to fill up the closer you get to Ryan field.
After the game you may have to wait in line for several buses before you get on one. It can be difficult to tell the line from everybody milling around and exiting after the game. Be sure to ask people where the line ends.

I'm staying at the Hampton Inn in Skokie. I usually take Dempster to downtown then turn left onto University or Hinman to get to the Church Street Ramp. That helps avoid some of the downtown traffic. Or you can take Emerson directly to downtown Evanston from Skokie and park in the Maple Street ramp.

My kids love the trains, that's why I take them.

Appreciate the help. We are staying at the same hotel so plan on using those directions. Thanks again

So those who park in ramps I assume don’t tailgate? Is tailgating allowed in the free campus lots?

No worries. We take day trips all the time to Wrigley, Lincoln park zoo, etc & train all over town. The kids love it.

thanks for all the help going to try my luck at the West lot by the stadium to get a handicap spot if that doesn't work out I'll just go downtown to one of the ramps thanks

We're staying in downtown Evanston. There is a free parking lot a few blocks from our hotel that is near a shuttle stop, so that's where we're tailgating.

Decided to just buy tickets to the Merkel's tailgate at the golf course. Kinda pricey but don't need to worry about the hassle of loading the grill and coolers.

Probably parking downtown in a ramp any idea on price for ramp and shuttles wondering how much cash to bring

Good advice. If you park in a ramp in Downtown Evanston, its not THAT far of a walk to and from the stadium. I would say it's comparable to walking from downtown IC to Kinnick. If the weather is nice, and you're up for a walk, it might be easier than waiting to catch a bus.

I actually don't mind parking on the side streets and walking. It's pretty easy...

I'm hoping that around 1/3 of the stadium is packed with Hawkeye fans.
