NW - WI game last night

Some hard feelings from WI assistants when NW player threw one down with just a few seconds left in the game. Once again Badgers shooting less than 40% for the game - needs to improve if they are going to make the Big10 proud in the NCAA tournament.

If you're relying on Wisconsin to make the Big Ten proud, your going to be disappointed.
Purdue is the only team that has a legit chance to make it into the second weekend of the NCAA
tournament.

Conference pride is a myth. F the badgers.

The only downside is that Northwestern's hilarious streak of no tournament seems to finally be doomed.

Gard blew off the handshake. Whatever, have no problem with it and also have no problem with NW throwing down the dunk and the sideline going crazy. They're competing, it's the Big 10. I will say had Fran Mccaffrey blown off the handshake, it would've been all over twitter, espn and the BTN

I love Fran, but he has earned having his behavior put under a microscope. Until Gard throws a chair on the court, I won't compare the two. I love the fire the Fran shows. He is the anti-Todd L.

fack Wisconsin . They had full court press on with just seconds left , down by a couple of scores. NW beat the press anddid what Wisconsin would've down had the roles been reversed.

Yea....this is what I saw. Mcintosh, who was great and the diff last night, was getting intense pressure with that full court press and just dialed up a length of court pass to beat the pressure in perfect stride to the NW player who's momentum and just had an easy throw down to finish the beat down of the Badgers in their friendly confines no less....

Like the Badgers haven't beat down the Cats too many times to count until last night.....seriously, and they were upset?

You must be thinking of Knight throwing a chair onto the court. Fran picked up a chair and slammed it down hard.. It was still standing when he finished. Not good, but did not throw it onto the court. And I believe he did it to fire up his team, not to complain to the officials, though that probably would have been needed,

Wisconsin is one of the most overrated teams in the country, imo. They are solid, but have won lots of close games against crappy teams. I don't think they have beaten an AP top 25 team yet this season. That's pretty amazing. They will get a 4 seed though and play to seed making another sweet 16 appearance.

To any objective observer, there's one standard for Fran, and another for just about every other coach in the country. More BS directed at Iowa.

Wisconsin should be skewered all over every social media platform and TV outlet for that boorish behavior. Poor Badgers got beat--@ home--by little NW and can't handle it. No excuses for Wisconsin's coaching staff. None.

Let's put the antics of the coaches at Kentucky, Kansas, Duke,Syracuse, MSU, OSU, and every other place in the country under the very same microscope used for Fran. Why the hell not? Every single coach has his moments, and those programs I mentioned are the blue bloods who win almost every game, so what the hell do they have to complain about at all compared to Iowa?

Double standards are always bogus, and this certainly is no exception.

Now I wanna see the Hawkeyes go up there and whip the Badgers and see how Wisky reacts to another home loss.

Plus the Badgers were down 10 after the dunk. They shouldn't be upset as their player shot a 3 as time ran out. Game was over so why shoot the 3 then. I don't feel bad for them at all.

NW is a well-coached team on the way up.
Agreed. Chris Collins is doing a hell of a job there. He will most certainly have some big boys come calling in the next couple years. It will be interesting to see if he chooses to stay and try and build something or if he leaves for a higher profile job.

He will leave, no doubt about it.

Badgers have been surviving on Happ's play most of the season,.... this won't have gone un-noticed by other teams come tournament time.....

Yep. Happ is their best and most efficient player, by far.

This is kind of an odd Badger team. Not really as efficient as others. Next year will be very interesting. They lose 4 starters and I'm wondering if we are kind of seeing the end of the Bo Ryan influence at that point.

Without question, if that would have been Fran, It would have been the lead story on the Wilbone and Kornholer show today on ESPN. I would think since this was a conference game the BIG should hand down some type of reprimand to Gard. Or is it only Fran who gets slapped on the wrist?

No, the Bo Ryan influence will continue and likely be reinforced,... They will go back to that painfully slow offense that Bo typically displayed during most of his years in Madison. The more potent Badger offense that we've been watching the past 3-4 years has been unusual for that program.....

You are right about the offense I think. I have seen some disparities though.

For example, Bo kept a pretty tight rotation (7 or 8 guys tops). Gard seems to utilize more bench players and isn't as set on a specific rotation as much as Bo was.

Also, and it's early, but we have yet to see how player development plays out under Gard. Not only did Bo leave, but Gary Close left as well. I think next year will be interesting to see how they develop. Hopefully, Gard isn't Bo 2.0.

Collins is building up a resume to slide into Durham when Coach K's back issues cause him to step aside.

You can call it throw or slammed down, but point being this kind of behavior does not go unnoticed in the media. There was also the throwing of the water bottle.

Wisky has hit the wall the last week or so...mainly due to Koenigs calf injury. He is a key guy in their three headed monster with Hayes and Happ. He is not the same dead-eye shooter / great athlete he was earlier in the season. If he stays gimpy Badgers will not win the league....PU is playing the best right now.

NW has nice talent which will all return next year...could be the favorite next year. Collins beat Fran for McIntosh,Law and Lindsey...their three best players....shame.

Would be nice if they start to fade and our young guys build some momentum. Beating Wisky at Madison would almost be worth a trade for not making the NCAAs.

That's the amazing part. They very well could be a title contender and top 15 type team next year. They have a great nucleus and some young guys.

The switch on offense during the final four runs was Gard's brainchild. He implemented the swing again because of the personnel he was left with. As he gets his guys (since Bo's last class looks like a big disappointment thus far), I suspect you will see a shift back to what he wants to do.

Also, the 2014-15 offense was actually the second slowest in Bo's tenure, it was just historically efficient.

Lol. Not trying to trash talk, I respect the Wisconsin program a lot, but that sentence just cracks me up.

The loss to the Badgers was the best thing to happen to them.Purdue hands down has been the best team in the league.

How crazy to think that northwestern has never been in the dance, and will go from dance invite to possible B1G favorite next year. Crazy.

Not a Collins fan. Typical Duke arrogant a##. He left the starters in against Iowa well past the game being in contention stage. NW plays like Fran wants / hopes to play. Crisp ball movement, fundamentally sound and guys who can knock down shots.

the Chair Slam is why I love Fran...
and I believe those who criticize it are sh*ttin idiots.
passion is a good thing.
and officials are fixing games.
officials have no accountability.
and coaches have to coach in this crooked business with a little extra fire.
and Fran's got it.
its a man's league... and men ought to act like men.

gamesmanship, regardless of the variety, is what makes sports interesting.

Maybe Collins can make NW the Duke of the north??? If he can convince just one of the best HS players from Chicago to stay home each year, he would have a very good start.

Collins thinks a lot of himself and I doubt NW has the cash to pay him or build the type of facilities he will want. With that being said, Butler and Gonzaga consistently compete with the big boys. Duke seems to be the obvious fit, but he could be out after this season if the right Big East / ACC team calls.
