Watched the replay of the 2009 Iowa v. Ohio State game today. This was the game where James Vandenberg shone as the back up to Ricky Stanzi. Stanzi out with an injury. #10 v. #11 in the country. Hawks lost 27-24 in overtime. Just watching Vandenberg's technique and presence in that game makes me wonder what might have been if he had been a starter during another time in Hawkeye football history. He had great footwork and pocket presence against one of the best defenses in the country. No question about his arm talent. Too bad he was saddled with starting as a senior during the transition to Greg Davis as offensive coordinator.
