three will be walk-ons (Kulick, Snyder, and Croston plus the punter.) Does this mean we have a good walk-on program or a very average recruiting system?

If this was a test at UI id answer true.

Well this year we started three walk on's: Plewa/Cox, Myers, and Croston and we went 12-0. So I guess I'm missing the point here?

Fullback should be walk on position. You can always give a kid a scholly if he excels. KOK used to throw a scholly or two at FB position and we never had enough RBs so we would end up with a walk on starting RB like Brownlee or Paki

Now KF's penchant for having placekickers like Mossbrucker on scholly for 5 years without ever being good enough to beat walk ons, or having punters that can't punt like Mullins, that is just stupid scholly management.

We have an excellent walk-on program. Croston did a great job this year, even though it appeared he and James Daniels really struggled against Stanford.

Give me a scholarship fullback like Jeremy Allen any day over the walkons we've had the last decade. That guy had 8 TDs for us in 2001 plus good blocking for Fred Russell.

A lot harder than you think when projecting who will excel and who won't - for a lot of reasons - grades, attitude, girls, alcohol, motivation, body maturity, etc. Never more evident than the NFL where they spend hundreds of millions of dollars on drafting only to make mistake after mistake. Thas Football and life my friend!

Iowa has recruited just fine at Safety over the years, actually they have had some highly rated players at that position. So when guys like Snyder come in and make an impact I think it says more about a kid that fell thru the recruiting cracks and is working his tail off.

The last few classes the recruiting at Tackle hasn't been very good. After Scherff and Donnal left there was a huge dropoff between Ike/Myers/Croston. I think Croston came to Iowa as a 220 pound walk on? We should have better talent to start with at that position. It was kind of a perfect storm of lack of talented recruits and the "talented" guys Iowa did get didn't pan out (Ward). Iowa still managed an amazing season but the lack of talent at Tackle was evident all season against average to above average pass rushers.

Different system! Plewa and Cox were flat out studs! Pretty tough to score a tad when you get zero carries. Very hard to find kids that are willing to play fullback and not care about getting a carry much less a touchdown. Fullback at Iowa should almost always come from a walk on.
