Through Sunday's (June 2, 2019) games:

SEC & ACC Dominate the Regionals

The SEC had a nice weekend going 25-8 with six Regional champions and every team except Florida playing for a regional title and every team except Georgia playing to their seed.

The ACC went 16-9 with three regional titles and one more team playing for one on Monday. They had a pair of three-seeds win Regionals.

The Missouri Valley Conference had a great showing at 6-3 with Illinois State still alive on Monday.

The Pac 12 is 5-8 with UCLA and Stanford still playing.

The Big 12 started strong but sits at 8-7 with Oklahoma State still playing. Texas Tech did win the Lubbock Regional.

Another tough set of regional results for the B1G.

Michigan gagged a potential regional title by blowing a 3 run lead in T9 - giving up 7 runs to Creighton and losing 11-7. Last chance tonight for the B1G to sneak a team into the tournament's equivalent of the Sweet 16.

With a chance to advance to regional final (where they'd have to be beaten twice in a row), Nebraska held a three run lead going into the 9th against Oklahoma State. Yep . . . they gagged it. And then lost 16-1 to UConn to be eliminated from the tournament.

The B1G did not beat a single team from the ACC or the SEC.

Illinois lost to Clemson (ACC) and Jacksonville State (Ohio Valley).
Indiana lost to Illinois State (Missouri Valley), beat University of Illinois-Chicago (Horizon) and lost to Louisville (ACC).
Nebraska beat UConn (American Athletic Conference), lost to Oklahoma State (Big 12) and lost to UConn.
Ohio State lost to Vanderbilt (SEC), beat McNeese State (Southland Conference) and lost to Indiana State (Missouri Valley).
Michigan beat Creighton (Big East), beat Cincinnati (American Athletic Conference) and then lost to Creighton.

B1G record against conferences in tournament:

American Athletic Conference: 2-1
ACC: 0-2
Big East: 1-1
Big 12: 0-1
Horizon League: 1-0
Missouri Valley: 0-2
Ohio Valley: 0-1
Southland Conference: 1-0
SEC: 0-1

If you go by final RPI, the B1G beat teams with the following RPI.
Michigan over Creighton (#20)
Michigan over Cincinnati (#90)
Indiana over UIC (#187)
Ohio State over McNeese State (#91)
Nebraska over UConn (#26)

Not exactly head turning.

Nice analysis.

Most B1G schools are putting money into baseball, correct?

Will the B1G ever catch up to the SEC or is weather going to always keep the B1G down?

Iowa showed some good signs this season when they went out of conference, taking 2 of 3 from both Oklahoma State and UC Irvine. And its awesome to see Ok State (last year) and UC Irvine (this year) willing to come to Iowa City; I think it makes Iowa baseball look legit to the rest of the country. D1baseball.com has taken notice & has written nice things about Heller & the program.

I think one thing going for Iowa is we don't have to worry about another D1 school in the state (ie, Iowa State) and with Wisconsin not having D1 baseball, that should help Iowa in recruiting that state.

I think 4 SEC & 2 ACC teams make the 8 team College World Series.

4 SEC Teams likely make the CWS:

No. 2 Vanderbilt (52-10) over
Duke (34-25)

No. 5 Arkansas (44-17) over No. 12 Ole Miss (40-25)

No. 6 Mississippi St. (49-13) over No 11 Stanford (45-12)

No. 13 LSU (40-24) over Florida St. (39-21)

2 ACC Teams should make the CWS:

No. 7 Louisville (47-16) over No. 10 East Carolina (47-16)

No. 14 North Carolina (45-17) over Auburn (36-25)

The other 2 teams likely to advance to the CWS:

No. 1 UCLA (51-9) over Michigan (44-19)

No. 8 Texas Tech (42-17) over
No. 9 Oklahoma St. (39-19)

No Iowa = no interest
agree

i just think about 2 of the Sweet 16 teams:

* Iowa took 2 of 3 at Oklahoma State.
* Michigan is average. They won neither the B1G reg season championship (IU) nor the BTT Championship (OSU).

And I think about when we might see Iowa reaching a Super Regional/Sweet 16.

Why not us?

In Heller we trust.

2017 team was extremely close. Literally a hit that bounced off the pitcher cost us the tying and possibly go ahead run vs Texas AM

And thru May 6, when we were ranked #24 in the country, I think we showed we could play with anyone in the country

When we played well we could mostly. Pitching consistency and offense consistency were always questions with Iowa.

Michigan like I said has two top 100 players as starting pitchers and that’s always going to give you a chance.

its crazy how they did not win the reg season or tourney B1G championship

that Michigan pitcher last night was light's out. and dang, the 9th inning must have been nerve racking for Michigan fans

i take it their #2 pitcher is going tonight?

Idk...

Tommy Henry is their other pitcher that was drafted, but Jeff Criswell started the second game of the regional. Believe he came in for relief last night, so my guess is Henry starts.

If Michigan doesn’t win with Henry my guess is they lose the third game. Things really drop off and get hairy for Michigan after Kauffmann, Henry, and Criswell.

I have Vandy vs Duke on, as well as UCLA vs Michigan. Damn, Michigan's pitching is starting to fall apart. A walk, a balk, and a wild pitch, all in succession. Michigan trying to hang on, leading 3-1, top of 6.

Weird (to me) seeing that Vandy has artificial turf.

Tommy Henry who is Michigan's other very solid pitcher has been battling the flu all week they said. He would start a Sunday game if necessary.

Iowa has artificial turf for baseball.

They just said that UCLA had 3 comeback wins last weekend in the Regionals.

They are not only the cardiac kids, but the comeback kids.

If UCLA can come back tonight, it forces a winner take all game 3 tomorrow, where the winner advances to the College World Series.

I may have just vomited in my mouth....

I like the baseball set u double elimination and then 2/3 better for a tournament. Ideally you do get the best/better teams there in the end. Unlike basketball where it's one and done.
