Assuming Suzuki misses time, Kelly needs to be DH

Sporadically. I think part of his hot streak is working out favorable matchups. But also, if he’s DH (or Amaya DH when Kelly catches), if there’s an injury forcing him to catch, you lose the DH for the rest of the that game and the pitcher would have to hit in Amaya’s spot.

When will Assad be ready
Making rehab start at Iowa on Tue, Apr 15th.
Rea starting tonight, but would love to have a healthy Assad in the rotation until Steele comes back. He'd also be a high-quality addition to the bullpen.
Tommy Birch is saying Wicks was a scratch from his start. I’d expect him to take Steele’s spot on Sunday.
Welp, looks like it's Rea, so hopefully Wicks isn't dealing with yet another injury....
Pressly does not have closer's stuff. That is going to be a problem eventually.
The good news for the Cubs in regards to the bullpen is that, compared to the previous two years, they have a lot of guys who can step up if the regulars continue to falter. Assad or Brown are proven commodities; at least one will be in the bullpen before the end of the season. Tyson Miller hasn't had a good spring, but if he returns from injury with his '24 stuff that would be an excellent addition. Roberts (up already, for now), Little and Neely have all been lights-out in AAA, and if this lefty Cosgrove dude can find his '23 stuff he'd be another weapon. No idea if Brasier will end up being a factor this season. And then, of course, there's Horton.

Bottom line is that the Cubs don't have to ride-out Pearson and Morgan if they continue to struggle, especially with them both having options left. Even Pressley can be turned into the league's most expensive mop-up guy if necessary. Winning is what's important, not his ego.

Looking forward to another 16 runs tonight.... :)

Bauer, 3 year deal for 10 million total. I
Hard pass. They can get by for a month or two with Wicks, Rea, and Assad. Wicks threw 3 innings today, so he is ready to go. They've got quite a few off days in the next month, so that makes maneuvering around Steele's absence easier. The Cubs also have a lot of payroll flexibility, so when June comes around and teams are starting to deal the Cubs can absorb more payroll, and give up less in prospects depending on a team they might deal with.

I’d sign Robertson and allow the combination of Assad/Wicks/Horton/Rae move into the rotation.
Lance Lynn is still out there on the scrap heap if you want a 5-6 inning starter of marginal value. I wouldn't do it, but, he's out there.

One thing to note, this is the second major surgery on Steele's left elbow. So, if it's a clean up he can be ready for next season. If they say he had to have reconstruction then half of 2026 is gone.

I think I read reconstruction. I think Bauer would be a killer, baggage and all

I haven't watched Sunday Night Baseball in awhile. I like the boring announcers, the camera angles and ump cam-all good.

Look, the lady who pressed charges was shown to be a psychopath. I want to win another WS. In think the dude has probably learned a lesson.
Forget that one incident, there were others that MLB investigated. He pitched for about 1/4 of all MLB teams before he was banished to Japan. Dudes that talented who bounce around that much are clubhouse cancers. If Hoyer or Hawkins asks the leadership committee or Counsell about adding Bauer they should say, "Hard pass".

Not sure if it was loud enough to hear that well, but as they discussed Gage Workman getting 2 hits last night off of infielder Miguel Rojas, Eduardo Perez said, "He owns him".
LOL
