Mmm......sounds like Iowa still hasn't solved their closer issues.

Trash.

With IOWA leading 2-1, this is how the bottom of the 7th inning went (where USF scored 4 of their 5 runs):

1st batter singled
2nd batter popped up (1st out)
3rd batter struck out swinging (2nd out !!!)
4th batter walked (runners on 1st & 2nd)
5th batter walked (bases loaded)
6th batter hit the GRAND SLAM
7th batter grounded out (3rd out)

The GRAND SLAM (2 outs, 2 strikes on the batter):

It is currently 85 degrees (and sunny) in Tampa, FL.

It will be 78 degrees and cloudy for tomorrow's first pitch (10 am CT). It will be interesting to see if the start time gets moved up because thunderstorms are predicted to come in at 1:00 pm CT, lasting several hours.

cloudy and windy, Should be a hitters paradise as winds will kick up right out of the Gulf of X.

IOWA loses 9-5.

Ugly game all around. Iowa gave up 13 hits & committed 4 errors. They left 11 on base (last column below).

Iowa had a 4-2 lead after 5 innings.

They then proceeded to give up 5 runs in the 6th & 2 more in the 7th.

IOWA used a total of 7 pitchers. The bullpen, in just 4 innings, gave up 8 hits, 6 walks, 1 hit batter, 1 wild pitch and 7 runs.

Nelson off to a rough start. It was a shame not to turn Cades performance into a series win but going into an opening series like this was always going to be a tremendous disadvantage. Let’s hope the Bulls can beat the Noles and really show a turnaround with the new coach.

On the plus side, the rotation was really very good to excellent, and a lot of guys other than Nelson really showed some pop and extra base power with 4 home runs. The lineup as a whole was a big question mark with so many new faces. But defense and bullpen were suspect at really bad times. This was a very evenly matched series overall.
