What happened to the old Heller ball the last couple years? It used to be get on base, bunt, steal bases, manufacture runs when the hits weren't falling. Now it seems the days of just putting the ball in play when you need to and putting the pressure on the defense have given way to three outcome ball like every other team. Too many strikeouts and not enough extra base hits if that's the way they want to play. I guess that's probably what travel ball teams emphasize now too though so hard to teach that out of them. I saw in the weekend notes they even include the hardest hit ball per game and home run distances, so I guess that's the most important thing nowadays.

Iowa hitters may be struggling some but they’re scoring enough runs to win games. Pitching wins games, Iowa doesn’t have it, and hasn’t been good recruiting it. Control issues have been a thorn in their side and can’t seem to coach it out of them.
