*****Official Luka Garza Appreciation Thread*****

He went down swinging and swinging hard.... Ever since he stepped on the floor as a Freshman, I remember seeing the intensity and hype in which he played and thought, "man this kid could be pretty good".... boy was I wrong, he wasn't just "pretty good" he was a superstar and a legend and he showed it in this game.... Great to see his jersey forever hang in CHA and hopefully we see more of him in the NBA

I put this in the other Luka thread. But it's worth the double respect.

The older I get, the more I realize that it’s hard for today’s players to live up to the legends of the guys I watched when I was a kid. Then you add someone like Street to the mix, who was roughly a peer (2 years older than me) at a rival HS who I saw blossom at Iowa while I was completing HS and starting at Iowa myself, and it’s even harder.....but I think it’s safe to say that Luka Garza is my favorite Iowa player of all time. The way he played from the start, the hard work, the focus, the energy, he just pushed himself to the top of college basketball by sheer force of will.

I love that guy.

So proud and happy that he was a Hawk. I wish my young boys were at an age they were able to better understand what type of role model he is.

but I will definitely tell them about it, and have them learn about his story.

tip of the cap to you Luka, thanks for being a great Hawk!!

My oldest plays baseball and doesn’t pay much attention to college hoops outside of picking a bracket. Over the past few years, he‘s watched just enough Iowa basketball to know who Luka is and I’ve talked to him about the growth and the way he works and over the last couple months, my kid has been checking in on some games or periodically asking me how Luka’s been doing, so while I don’t have a hoops fan in the house, I do like that I was able to connect one kid to Garza’s story.

Thank you Luka for being a Hawk. Thank you for all of the hard work and dedication. Thank you for being our legend. Thank you for being a wonderful role model for countless youngsters coming into the game. Thank you for representing the University in such an admirable way during your time here. Best of luck to you in the coming days and years.

Kudos on a great career!! Wonderful improvement year over year by this hard working young man. Best of luck in your future.

Luka......THANK YOU!!! .... for choosing the University of Iowa. Your work-ethic, love and passion for the game and for competition have been an inspiration, not only for me (a Hawkeye grad from the late '70s) but also for tons of younger boys and girls to just what hard work and stick-to-it can accomplish. I've been around long enough to have seen many great Hawk legends who have graced the hardwood. And with Iowa fans, they're still legends! ... still talked about....still providing great memories..... and you, Luka are just the latest. You'll always be a legend in Iowa and the UofI. Congrats on a great college career!

Thanks to Luka for being the great Hawkeye you worked so hard to become.
You are my 95 yr old moms fav Hawkeye of all time.
You will be a beloved Hawkeye Hero in the hawk nation for the rest of your days on this planet...hope this thought will comfort you and soothe your pain. Thanks Big Guy.

What a class act....did everything he could plus some. Im heartbroken his supporting cast couldn't have contributed more outside of Weezy. I've been pretty meh on Iowa basketball since the NW state choke job but Luka restored my enthusiasm these past 2 seasons. I hope it lasts, I'd forgotten how fun Iowa basketball can be. We were lucky fans to have LG

A great, great Hawkeye and by all accounts a great person. Worked as hard as he could and got every bit he could out of that body. Nobody achieved more with less than Luka. Gotta admire that above all else. He'll be greatly missed and wish him all the best on the rest of his basketball journey.

My wife and I took our son,his wife and their two children to the Illinois game in Iowa City in 2020. My 9 year old grandson was a huge fan of Luka and had a great time at a great game. I will always treasure the memory of him cheering on his hero.

Luka the Great, #1 Hawkeye hoopster of all time.

Nobody improved more, nobody worked harder. All class, all Hawkeye!
