*****Official NC Central (#343 per KenPom) at IOWA (#20 per KenPom) Game Thread. 8 pm CT, BTN*****

Perkins takes great gambles on defense. Will leave his man late in the clock to take a swipe when he's certain the ball handler has made up his mind. Reminds me of shit I do when I play pickup.

I guess even steph curry goes cold from 3 but dang that was rough. They are a foul heavy physical team though and Memphis only had 7 3s against them. Probably why fran told jbo to take it into the paint.

Kriss could have been a big help in this game. But in the end they found the right lineup to get them the win. Some games guys are going to be hot, and some nights we're going to be cold. In the end they calmed down stepped up and got the win.

He could end up with better numbers.
How about we see what happens in BIG play first? Garza put up those numbers basically 24pts/game against BIG teams as well, in fact I think his averages were better on league play. Keegan's been awesome to this point no doubt about it...

I have no idea how good these guys were tonight, but they had a good plan, and were a good team attacking the basket. I find it funny that they can rank a team as the #343 team supposedly, when they have NINE transfer players and entire new team. What do you base the ranking on exactly?

Oh yeah, but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities. Luka was 24 points 10 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. I'm thinking that Keagan tops him in rebounds and blocks. He was already better than Luka in those 2 metrics last year on a per 40 basis. Luka averaged 22 in conference. I think points will be close.

I would agree. If Fran would reward this all the time, he would likely get better defense. Play hard on that end or you can sit and watch everyone else play. Ulis, Perkins, Rebraca and Connor deserved the minutes they got in the second half. Not all of them scored/did much on offense, but they all played solid on defense.
If there was ever a year to make PT dependent on defense its this one but I doubt it happens.

Your best player is the leagues best defender.

Everyone else should have to follow his example.

On the same token, LG put up the same kind of points-scored numbers vs lesser competition as KM is doing now.

Also, yes it will be different as defenses will key on him in games vs P5 competition, but KeMurray wasn't exactly a wilting flower vs B1G opponents last year, as a true frosh.

Not saying its not possible, just that folks here tend to let their expectations get the best of them. KM is off to a GREAT start. Luka put up those numbers for TWO full seasons. Lots of basketball to be played against much better competition.....

interested to see how NC Central finishes out. They didn’t play like a +300 RPI team tonight.
9 transfers consisting of grad transfers and Juniors definitely change the complication of their roster. This North Carolina Central team is not as bad as their RPI rating indicates. It will be interesting to see where they end up at the end of the year.
They gambled a lot and tried to play physical basketball against us and got caught with multiple hands in the cookie jar. That was their only hope of taking us down and Iowa making 35 of 41 free throws spoiled their effort tonight.
Was very encouraged from what I saw, when the game didn't go their way they continued to fight and put the game away at the end. Guys learned much more tonight then if the game was a blowout.....

People are calling for Joe T's head... It was one not good game. Joe will be just fine. First two games Joe T and JBO were getting it done and tonight Ulis and Perkins got it done. It's good to have depth in the backcourt.
Perkins keegan and ulis are the only guys that played well tonight. The team looked unbelievably flat, like they really didn’t even care to be there. NCC played probably about as well as they could, made a ton of tough shots in the lane and hit a fair amt of 3’s. They played physical on d and got us out of sorts. We couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat…and still won by 17. Joe looked bad tonight, and guess what he played 18min compared to 22 for ulis. So it’s not like fran is just sticking with him bc he’s a starter. Everyone should be well aware there are going to be growing pains for this team! Just glad we got this one out of the way and still got the W

Thank gawd Central kept turning the ball over, they played Iowa very tough. I do like the lineup Fran had on the court for most of the 2nd half.

Early season KenPom rankings are based largely on what you bring back from the previous year. So yes, some variability. Yes, UNCC has a new team. I would not think they will be all that good. Most of their transfers weren't great players at previous stops. Prior to playing Iowa, they lost to Memphis by 39 and Richmond by 10.

The biggest thing they did was not play scared. They went right at Iowa, especially after Rebraca got 2 fouls. And Iowa couldn't do much about it until the last 12 minutes of the game when Fran went with the lineup of Keegan Murray, Rebraca and the 3 subs.

The defensive effort last night should set off alarm bells for Iowa. I shudder to think what Illinois and Purdue will do to Iowa inside, given what UNCC did.

Joe T is not the problem tonight.

Contrast that with Ulis. No wasted motion. Real in-your-face D, good help defense, rarely out of position. A very smart, heady player.

I love what Joe T can bring but sometimes his head is just somewhere else.

The +- would disagree with you...
Joe T was -8 for the game. He really struggled.

Tony P was +27, and Ahron U was +25. The 2 highest in this category.

Yeah. That was not a good outing for Joe at all. Ulis is playing great so far this year and Perkins looked great last night. He needed a better offensive performance to build confidence on that end. Hopefully he builds off of that.

Joe T has the potential. I am just not sure if he has the mentality to consistently play the point. He sure looks the part some nights but others he just seems to be pressing. I hope he can find his rhythm.

Joe played great in the previous 3 games. Having him and Ulis to run the point is a luxury Iowa hasn't had in years.

I don't understand what Toussaint is doing on defense.

Hes shown to be a good defender in the past but he's letting guys go by him way to often now and trying that reach around crap.

He needs to get refocused and stop trying to get a steal every possession.

We need to outscore/outshoot to win...nothing new
