I was looking at their stats last week and noticed they ran 25 times out of 100 plays. But they run the shovel pass so much, which is basically a inside pitch play, a run, that counts as a pass. They feature a heavy dose of the shovel pass. I can’t help but thinking part of the reason they run it is to pad stats. The qb gets the pass yards and touchdown pass if one breaks to a td and the rb still gets yards just not rushing yards. Is this a way to promote a player like jt barret for awards at the end of the year. Can they use it as a recruiting tactic saying look at all these yards our players get? If it was classified as a run, would they do it as often? Just a random thought I ponder ever time I see them run a one yard pass behind the line of scrimmage that is essentially a run. I believe that is also how Tim tebow was able to rack up all his yards in his heisman run.

There really isn't any reason to pad your stats when you're losing. If that's what they were doing, Urban and his OC should be fired today.

Na, it is a part of running the read option. Their problem this year is they don't have a mobile quarterback. He would be a better fit in a prostyle offense.

Correct. It drives me crazy that many coaches insist on fitting players into their system/scheme rather than being flexible with their system/scheme to work toward the strength of the players they have.
