OK, time to Call Out the IOWA students

How about we give them a chance before we call them out?

you probably have a point...but I wasn't overly impressed with the 2000 & some empty seats in the student section when we played MichST in Carver...I appreciate the ones that were there...no excuses come sunday to have 2000 empty seats...none.

LOL....no one in their right mind had Iowa beating MSU in East Lansing

How about we give them a chance before we call them out?

Yeah, let's give them their participation ribbon first...wipe their butts, and blow their noses (not with coke either), before we ask them to do their freaking duty. I'll excuse the students who lived through the Lick years where you had to cheer for us to score 40 points, but the students now need to restart the tradition of Iowa being a tough place to play, especially when you have a team that plays their nuts off. Get busy being loud!

Fine. But which games are you talking about this year. Those powerhouse home games, or the ones during break, or the ones where we weren't ranked?

School won't be back in session until Tuesday. This weekend will be a light student crowd.

the majority of students will be headed back this weekend prior to start of classes on Tuesday...there is no excuse for the students not to show support for their basketball students....none.

We have students ?

Based on the party school rankings, no we don't have students, we have drunks. We just need as many drunks showing up as possible....hey free beer in Carver this Sunday! I will freely admit this is somewhat the pot calling the kettle black as I was a drunk in college too...at least when it wasn't getting in the way of smoking weed. Oh...what memories of Iowa City...at least the ones I remember were special.

Give them a chance???? The band and cheerleaders are the ONLY students that show up

OK because many keep missing the point.

Look has student turnout been great this year? no.
Was turnout half full that first game I was at? no.
Were we ranked then? no.
Have we had marquee home games? nope.
Was the last MSU-Iowa game played four days after christmas, during break? yep.

How about we let Sunday pass before we post "OK, time to call out the Iowa students." Who know with a win and top 10 ranking maybe the student area will be packed.

This-if I was a student I'd come back a day early to cheer on the Hawks. Hawk Central said a few days ago there were only SRO tix left (that's coming from the IA ticket office)-sounds like it will be a sell out-same for the Purdue game the following Sunday.

FSU was a pretty big game. Band was half of the student section

Yeah, but before they can yell at MBB games, they've got to find a storage unit for their hoverboards.

When I see those things, I suffer an involuntary and uncontrollable response and body block the person operating it and then can't remember doing it.

This is what happens when your program goes in the tank for as long as we suffered. Students didn't come looking forward to an elite program and aren't going to get excited until we start winning games.

The place will be rocking for the next big game - that is a promise. Maybe once we've built up a tradition of winning again we will start the season with tremendous fan support. Comparing our students to Michigans States crowd is more than a little riddiculous

Forget MSU, our student section sucks when compared to Nebraska. Show up.

Btw if you are a junior at Iowa you have seen nothing but a NCAA tournament team in your 3 years and getting better. What the hell you waiting for? Who the hell cares about past coaches now??? That's a bad argument relative to students not going now.

Unless, they aren't back in town yet...or they don't want to.

As Dr Tom put it, if the students want better seats they need to begin showing up and want to be a part of the games. It has been an issue for a long time, When Alford was here they began having a few students take charge of the section like Wigman and it was rocking.
We need to get the student leader group back and participating, plus put bleachers beginning right behind both baskets so we have students at both ends at least and closer to the court.....

Don't care what it has been like so far this season, its time now, on a Sunday against a good team, to blow the roof of CHA

They need to BRING IT, like the sparty students, huh?

This is a really exciting time to be a HAWKEYE Hoops fan

I wonder what the ratio of in state students to out of state students are at Iowa....as far as I'm concerned I wouldn't mind if Iowa, would in the future, limit the amount of student tickets to games, to 2000 or less. Most student don't go to games anyway because they don't have any allegiants to the University, they bitch because it's too cold, the arena is hard to get to, the product on the court is not good enough, no free food, or no alcohol is served..... bla, bla, bla. Time to turn the unused seats to the general public.

School starts on Tuesday. The dorms open this weekend so the students will be returning this weekend. Carver will be rocking!

Why do they have to have excuses? What if they have reasons? For instance, "Don't want to go." is a reason, not an excuse.

It baffles me that people think students should in some way feel obligated to attend basketball games, or any other activity for that matter.

you are baffled? really...

by excuse I meant semester break..alot of students will be returning this weekend (need to get in that last celebration)..some of them are already back.

never used the word obligated ... if a student (assuming we are talking about someone who enjoys college BB & even has a ticket) doesn't want to go...so be it..just adds to the fact there are other places with more supportive students'. that's all.

What section is your season ticket in?

If someone does not want to go I would hope they either stop buying tickets or give someone else their ticket. Maybe daddy bought them a season ticket but they want to play Xbox and they just SAY they don't want to go. The natural question is "why don't you want to go?" Or "why get a ticket for a game for your conference leading school and not get off your over privaledged arse and go to the game?"

Weak sauce...........Was MSU back in session, last night? I doubt it

Yeah, because the last 15 years for the MSU program and the Iowa program have been remarkably similar.....Let me think....is there any reason why there might be more established student support at MSU than Iowa? Hmmm.......

Lot of excuses here for the most pathetic student section in the BIG, and it isn't even close. NW makes ours look bad LOL. I can bring better than any student we have here.

LOL. Assuming you meant Northwestern, they rarely have more than 300 kids, and their arena has a capacity of about 8100. Their average attendance last year was about 6900, so they could not even fill that glorified high school gymnasium.

And just to compare to that, Iowa averaged 14,101 last year. And in 2009-2010 (Lickliter's last year) Iowa still averaged over 9500.

Yay, our student section is a joke. What was your point?
