I’ve tried watching some NCAA tournament games and just cannot get into it. Doesn’t seem to be much of a team game anymore. Most “offensive schemes” seem to consist of (1) a high screen, a dribble drive, and a wild shot or (2) dribble penetration with a kick out for a three point attempt. A lot of guys standing around not doing much until the shot goes up, then bodies flying everywhere. Much athleticism, little teamwork.

Are any of you other cultured gentlemen experiencing the same apathy towards this once-beloved event?

I wouldn’t say it’s beloved for me. But definitely watched less NCAA basketball than ever.

Feels like a lack of superstar draw or really any storylines

The other problem for me is all the one & done guys, transfers, NIL.

When I first started watching Iowa basketball you knew you would be seeing guys like Blab, Granville Waiters, Isaiah Thomas, and Antoine Jobert for the next 2-3 seasons and you really grew to dislike certain teams. The turnover now is absurd, expect for the McCaffery boys who had few other options.

Right there with you, FWIW. The super fluid rosters from year to year and early entries to the draft don't help.

Iowa in the tournament might cure your apathy

It used to be that they just wanted to get on the basketball floor and listen to the sound of the dribble. Now it all seems about making committed or a thank you note with transfer announcement. Then they get hooked on the likes on Twitter they get when they make these sort of posts so they do it every year until their college eligibility is done.

You should have watched the Iowa women today. They were the definition of team. Every player was cheering for each other and I think everyone on the entire team scored today with assists galore.
