Soo I'm watching the Minn match last night because my Roku was nice enuff to record it for me with out being asked.

Curious as hell, How rare is it that Gable is wrestling in college with an Olympic GOLD medal hanging on his wall.
Also to think, it could have very well been possible to have 2 Olympic champs wrestling in NCAA this year if Spencer's body allowed it.

Would love to hear a story from an opponent, that has to be humbling and an honor to wrestle the best in the world, no doubt up against next level stuff.

Any thoughts or stats on Olympic champs on the NCAA mats?

Barry Davis. Silver '84, NCAA champ '85.

Ken Chertow. Olympian '88. Never an NCAA champ, 6th @ 118 in '89.

That's the two off the top of my head.

Randy Lewis made the 1980 Olympics that was boycotted and took 7th at NCAA's the following year when he broke his elbow (74 match win streak halted when he broke his elbow).

John Smith won the Olympics in 1988, I believe his Senior year at Okie State.

How did this happen? And seeing his results how they hell is it not still happening? Most other sport recruits globally.

Those are global sports. Folkstyle wrestling is not; it is US only. That's a big reason why international wrestlers competing in college in the USA is on the rare side. It happens, but not a lot.

The Clones have a Russian and a Cuban. The Russian actually wrestled folk in Massachussets though.

Interesting, didn’t know that. I’m going to look up where, exactly — and will lol if the answer is New Bedford.

EDIT: Not even close — it was Wayland (much more posh than NB).

I’ve been selling Yojiro Uetake as the GOAT for a long time on this forum. A lot of people don’t understand that Uetake did not dominate in Folkstyle because of his culture. He did enough to win but did not want to embarrass his opponent. That is a hard concept for some Americans. He was never in danger of losing in Folkstyle.
