I'm thankful that the men won the gold (and will be for the women) but that had to be the worst American gold medal team. Can't we find a big or two? The guy from France man-handled our guys. We are just lucky that he can't shoot free throws.

Think with later nba season and covid crap saw some superstars pass that maybe would’ve have played. Thank goodness for Durant or we could’ve had a repeat of 04’ Games. Think in 24’ see a stronger roster. Also Gobert for France is a multiple defensive player of the year winner. With way game is don’t see as many dominate bigs in the paint but top guys right now would be non Americans like Jokic and Gobert.
i will never watch the women soccer team play again. They represent what I despise.
The team is the most successful in international women's soccer, winning four Women's World Cup titles, four Olympic gold medals, and eight CONCACAF Gold Cups. Somehow, I doubt that they care a fig if some keyboard jockey in Iowa decides not to follow the team anymore.
A lot more than a few Iowa fans will not watch them and cheer when they suck!

There is no reason that any American women's team should not dominate other countries. How many other countries do girls get to play a highly organized sport before being college age?
The rest of the world is starting to invest more significantly in women's sports like the US has over the previous 4-5 decades. It's a good thing for women around the world.
You are correct that the women's athletes in the U.S. have had a significant advantage in things like soccer and basketball due to the opportunity to play and be coached from youth up to college levels for decades.

I'm not going to complain about us ever winning a Gold medal in any sport. You're right, it wasn't a great team. However, we had Durant, who was coming off a torn achilles, played every minute of the last 2 playoff games, and then went out and balled his ass off. Same for guys like Jrue Holiday, MIddleton and Booker. These guys came straight from the NBA finals with zero rest and also played their asses off. The rest of the world is pretty good. Slovenia, Australia, France. All have NBA players. It's not 1994 or whenever we first brought the dream team. It's also doubtful we're ever going to be able to get our top 10-12 guys to be able to all play w/injuries, long NBA season, etc. The rest of you snowflakes and idiot Trumpers can now go Fu&& yourselves and go back to whining about the women's soccer team.

since this seems to be the topic of this thread now... the emphasis and protesting of the gender equality pay gap that rapinoe and the wnt are conducting is ridiculous for several reasons.
1. the wnt actually rejected the same pay structure and schedule as the mnt before agreeing to the what they have now thru their cba.
2. the wnt gets paid an annual salary of $100,000. the mnt does not, they are paid per match only. the wnt gets a smaller per match payout than the mnt.
3. the wnt has a much more robust benefits package than the mnt including healthcare coverage.
4. this is entertainment, you get paid based on demand. generally women's sports don't create the cash flow that men's sports do. do male models make the same as female models? where is the uproar for that?
5. a court ruled against the wnt, citing the above reasons.
the soccer wnt is taking advantage of a perception and making hay with it. im not a fan.

A perfect example of how a thread we should be celebrating gets poisoned by politics.
Huge soccer supporter but don't really care for Rapinoe for many reasons, most have to do with her play. Others have to do with her commentary.
Your video even commented she didn't deliberately step on the flag. The video, which is also from the world cup- not Olympics) clearly does not show her stomping on the flag.
Viewership tanked and Subway is under great pressure to drop her in the ads (customers and store owners alike). If you hurt your fan base, you hurt your income. I won't watch them and I am with masses.
Could someone answer my question...please? I'm not sure how things got to soccer and politics because my question was about Olympic men's basketball and the lack of big men on the USA roster. If given the chance what big man/men would you put on the roster?
Anthony Davis should have been out there, but he got hurt during the playoffs
Only other great option that I can think of is Karl Anthony-Towns. After that, Adebayo really wasn’t a bad play, maybe Zion. After that you have to start looking at like Myles Turner, John Collins, or Blake Griffin

KAT has already played for the Dominican Republic Olympic team, so he can't play for the USA.
Wasn’t a lot of options for bigs. Anthony Davis showed up this year out of shape and got hurt. Never hit his stride. Add in the fact that because of the pandemic there wasn’t much rest between last season and this season lots of guys just wanted to recover. Thank goodness for Durant and Holiday, who had to be exhausted.

Vlade Divac and Yao Ming aren't from the USA. There aren't any other good centers.
Seriously though, the game has changed some and the # of dominant centers is less than in the past. I don't watch a lot of NBA, but it seems like the post position actually has a quite a few dominant foreign players.
