Omaha Biliew Unofficial Visit is June 7

Higher tuition paid for? They are on a full ride wherever they go. Gonzaga is on the absolute middle of nowhere. In a nowhere conference. They have zero advantages over any power 5 school. Have you seen the special dorm KU built for the bball players? Going to guess Gonzaga has nothing like it. The money a school like Texas, Ohio St, etc have is way more than what these private schools have to offer.
You are clueless. Look at the cost of attendance at these schools, the campuses, etc. The private schools are like country clubs vs public courses in golf in most cases. KY is one of the few exceptions.

Kentucky is the exception? Kansas, UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, etc. I could go on and on. Nobody pays full tuition at a private school. Nobody.

I understand that is your opinion on this. We just disagree.

Don't know if we have any chance at all with this kid but I hope we are rolling out the red carpet today. Any confirmations he is indeed on campus?

I don't know Omaha's story. Was he born here? Are his parents in the United States? Or did his handler pay to bring him to the United States as some form of contractual agreement?

I don’t know him personally. I have been aware of him since he was either a 5th grader or 6th grader at a private school in WDM. I believe he is a war refugee and is adopted by a family. However, he spent a ton of time with another family that has a basketball gym in their house. That guy that owns the house is a big Hawkeye fan and he’s Tweeted many times about Omaha. However, his actual guardian is an ISU fan from what somebody told me here a year or two ago.

I guess things are totally different when you’re a top 10 guy in your class, but I was bothered by his exit from Dowling (I believe he was angry about playing time?), brief stop at the AZ prep school, coming back to the DSM metro area and choosing Waukee, and now who knows what’s next?

Oh, also, he has a cousin that’s (I think) a year younger and isn’t at Omaha’s level but is pretty decent. Also a war refugee I think.

Dowling took a very very conservative approach to his playing time. I believe he spent most of his time there on the JV team? Could be wrong. When you have a top 10 national recruit on your team, and also built like him and athletic like him, he was clearly good enough to start for Dowling as a Freshman. Waukee moved him into the lineup with no hesitation. And that’s with 3 other D1 players. Not saying Dowling did anything wrong, just noticed as an outsider.

It is an interesting approach and similar to the one SEP took with Proctor I think. I dont believe he played a snap of varsity as a freshman. He got offers based on his JV film from a few schools.

interesting. thank you.

I assume the guardian (handler?) is the guy in the pics?

He’s transferring to one of the following prep schools; Montverde Academy, Sunrise Christian, Brewster Academy and Prolific Prep. Unless something new is in the works.

it will be interesting to see if he ever plays in a college game. my bet is that if HS seniors are not eligible for the 2023 Draft, he will play in the G League for around $500,000 a year

If he is one of the guys that will be paid 500K that would be probably to enticing to pass up, at least in my opinion.

Not sure how much this is affecting how much time college coaches are putting into his recruitment, but he has options other than college.

1) Adam Silver has confirmed that the NBA has presented a proposal to the National Basketball Players Association that would allow high school players into the 2022 draft.

2) The G League, where he can make really good money as a highly ranked 5 star. Jalen Green, for example, was the highest ranked player in the 2020 high school class according to ESPN. He became the first player to join the NBA G League Ignite, earning $500,000.
I would like to add the big time programs can come in late in the process and cherry pick recruits.

I went to the ISU tourney game against Virginia a few years ago when they absolutely smoked us and I bought tickets through Gonzaga so I was sitting in their section. I sat next to a guy with a daughter there who knew some of the players. They lived in regular dorms with the rest to the students. Gonzaga is an incredibly small school as well. It's all Few.

I'm only barely following this recruitment because I'd bet there is a close to 0% chance he ends up at ISU or even in college.

It is a lot to pass up, if you’re making the counter argument it’s look at Jalen Suggs vs Jalen Green. Both will be top three picks but Suggs comes in with a ton more name recognition due to his one year at Gonzaga. Casual fans are well aware of him, not many people are aware of Green. I wouldn’t be surprised if he more than makes up that $500k difference in endorsements right off the bat. Also one year of college is a lot more fun than one year of G-League basketball for the off court stuff.

Not going to argue which is more fun for an 18 year old kid, but 500K is a nice head start. And if both are top 3 picks and Green can legitimately play, he will make his money as well. Everyone has to choose the right path for themselves. And it’s not like these guys are students. They go 1 semester of college and basically enroll for a 2nd but most end up leaving and getting ready for the league.

So now some of you don't want him? Look, you can't have it both ways. Most of the board bitches about Fran not being able to "finish" with top recruits and now we have guys saying we don't want a top 10 guy? Really? Look, odds are very slim on guys like this as we are lucky to even land top 100 guys very often. However, if by some major miracle he would say he's coming to Iowa for the year we're taking him. If you look at the top 25 guys or so anymore most of them are guys at non traditional high schools anymore. Changing landscape. Like it or not.

From what I recall, he didn't get playing time at Dowling cause he didn't put in the effort needed to deserve those minutes.

I think you take players who fit with the team. If they are all about themselves, I believe it's better to not add those types of players. If Omaha is a positive team player, then by all means sign him up.

So he left and went to Waukee and won a state championship playing along 3 other D1 guys? He certainly fit in well there. Dowling wasted him.

It was quote in the paper from the Dowling coach - from what I remember. He wasn't putting in the effort during practice as a freshmen. I'm sure this motivated him.

He'd get keys alright, and meanwhile the NCAA does nothing.................

How crazy is college basketball? Bill Self has been charged with THREE Level I NCAA violations, alleging he was in on the Adidas scheme.

And what does Kansas do??? The extreme opposite of firing his ass. They give him a lifetime contract.

My god, this sheet is happening at blue blood programs and we wonder why Fran struggles in landing some of these kids?

I certainly could be wrong, but I get the feeling that Omaha might be cancer to a team. I get an over confident Ricky Davis vibe when reading about his recruitment.
This. I don't expect the Hawkeyes to be in his top 2-3 finalists and as time goes by, I see that as a blessing. Seems more and more like the opposite of a Luka Garza.

I don’t fault the coach. Can’t have lazy players and not have it either spread to the team or cause tension if he’s playing over others. Rather have one pissed off player than a team full of them.

There is no doubt that Omaha has incredible athleticism. I have heard he also has an incredible ego. My nephew officiates in the Des Moines area and has told me that Omaha could be a cancer to a team. He really needs at least one year of good coaching to bring his fundamentals and work ethic up to the level of his athleticism. I hope this kid gets good advice because it would be a shame to waste that kind of natural talent.

Sounds more and more like Ricky Davis+ all the time........

I’m going to guess he’s getting really really good coaching with MoKan. I read a lot of speculation on here about this and that. Fran would take him in a heartbeat. Don’t be ridiculous. Love to hear from a cousins brother’s cousin that he’s lazy.

If the kid isn't a team player, he won't be a Hawkeye/won't want to be a Hawkeye.

i would be interested in the relationship he has with his "trainer."

has his trainer paid for everything, from the moment Omaha came to the USA and up until now?

does his trainer therefore have Omaha under some kind of unwritten, wink-wink contract, where he hopes to profit in the near future?
