One of my all time fav IOWA vs Wisconsin (IOWA BLOWOUT)

The last "happy ending" Hayden year. Unfortunately, a "what could have been" year also where there were a baffling performance or two. 1995 was fairly similar unfortunately, and we all remember 1997 all too well where the overall depth issues that led to 1998-2000 started to be exposed.

The games I remember most aren't the OSU Tim Dwight performance nor the dominating bowl win (or see the best wins below), but the particularly galling Northwestern and Tulsa losses. Those two games were serious "what the hell happened" performances from that year.

Yes, Penn State and Wisconsin were good wins...but there's not a whole lot of meat on that bone otherwise.

But yeah, kicking Wisconsin's ass always feels good when looking back at it now.

The Billy Ennis-Inge game, always think of him with his head bandaged up like Dan Gable. A complete butt whippin', but unfortunately the end of our streak against them and the start of a good rivalry.

I forgot just how good Shaw was until I watched that video. Damn. Anyone wondering why Banks was on the bench in '96 should watch this replay.

Personally I love how they stuffed the shit out of Ronald Dayne ..even though he was a freshman that year he broke the NCAA freshmen record .. for rushing but was Iowa’s defense that used him as a whipping boy that fine Saturday

These were also really good. Nothing like whipping Bucky's ass when it means we get a share of the conference championship instead of them winning it outright. And then in 2008, Shonn Greene just had his way.

Was it the yr 98 or 99 Wisky beat us 31-0? The down fall began.
It was before my fandom of Badger football, but I believe that game was in 99, when Ron Dayne broke NCAA's yardage record.
My personal fav Iowa-Wisconsin game, needless to say it has to be a Wisconsin win, was Brad Nortman's fake punt.

The one thing I will always remember about that 1996 game is that I thought the guy to the right of me did not clean off his boots before leaving the pig farm only the find out that the whole stadium was sharing that delightful smell that you can only get in farm country.

Wisconsin calls IOWA fat farmers and shit like that but look at Pissconsin’s license plates “America’s Dairy Land” with cows on the plate .... lol who’s the hicks and the farmers? When you say Wusssconsin... you’ve said enough

It seems as though every year it just works out that I end up going to the Wisconsin game, just seems like tradition at this point. I live in San Antonio now so I have to fly back and the week I'm available is also wisky week. Booked my hotel for it again this year. But, my all time favorite was 2002 watching Brad Banks go to work.

97-09 was a pretty good rivalry. We are 1-5 since and doubt we'd have that 1 if clement wasn't injured. They kinda own us these days....

This year is a good litmus test for both programs.
Wisconsin should have a very, very potent offense but has a lot of youth in the secondary and Defensive Line.
Plenty of talent in both but not as much depth anywhere on defense, unless lot's of talented youngsters step up.
I had no qualms about Jim Leonhard last year stepping up and doing the fine job that he did, I expected it but this year is a greater test with young Corners, safeties and DE's.
Linebacker should remain a strength.

If Iowa is going to break through , catching us early gives you a great chance this go around but we should score on everybody this year.
OL returns, a year older and wiser, Hornibrook seems to have raised his game to the next level, Taylor and company at RB, young WR's were great last year and are to be pushed by up and coming talent, only areas to replace are FB, where Alec Ingold now finally takes over full time and TE where we have 2 , 4 stars in Penniston and Ferguson who will fight it out for the starting position.
We will score and have a good kicker but can we shut down offenses like we mostly did the past few years ? Remains to be seen, injuries to key guys won't easily be absorbed this year as in the past 4-5.
Should be an interesting season.

I agree it's a good litmus test for Iowa, but why Wisconsin? Do you really expect the Badgers to have another season like last? They play @Iowa, @Michigan, @NW, @Penn St, and @Purdue.

Wisconsin has already established themselves as a 10-win/season program. Unless you are concerned they might slip well below 10 wins this season, what exactly is the litmus test for Wisconsin? If it's another 13-1 season, you're likely to be very disappointed.

I just hope we can get ahead early so I can enjoy watching Hornibrook throw repeatedly to our secondary...

We keep saying that about Bucky every year, yet they continue to win 9 to 10 games a season. They have a very fertile recruiting ground in the state of Wisconsin and it’s only getting better.

Actually, yes, we almost beat Michy at Michy when Hornibrook was a Frosh and was injured, handled them last season at home too.
Purdue can’t compete with us talent- wise yet, I think we are better than Northwestern and PSU loses the few guys who beat us in the Championship game two years ago.
Iowa? Always a tough game but winnable too.
Yes, can JL coach these kids up and continue having these shutdown defenses, that’s the test.

I hope we do throw it more this season, Hornibrook is starting to figure it out and this is the best WR group we’ve had since Chris Chambers and Lee Evans overlapped, deepest we’ve, arguably, ever had.

First off, Lefty Larry and Carlton are two of the best that post here for the opponents. Level-headed guys who know the history and the strengths/weaknesses of both teams.

I think what's been most amazing to me is how much talent the the Badgers have stock-piled defensively to fit the 3-4 scheme. That has gone unnoticed in the recruiting rags, etc., since nearly everyone projects guys in a conventional scheme. Larry is correct that UW has lost quite a few guys but can the new kids back fill adequately?

Offensively, the Badgers should be really good. This is where Chryst shines and it's not just the productive scoring drives but the ability to take big chunks of time off the clock with a lead. There is nothing to suggest that UW is worse than 10-2, 11-1 this year but can they get over the hump in a BT championship game? I don't see Iowa winning as our coaches don't seem to have any answers against the 3-4 and our defense will eventually get gassed. I am expecting a 31-21 Wisconsin win on 9/22/18.
