More than 70 Iowans grace the rosters of both teams, with 51 playing for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa has only lost once in 13 games ranked entering the CyHawk Game. The loss came in Ames in 2005.
Iowa State was ranked once, entering the 1978 game in Iowa City, winning 31-0. Could we have the early expectation for the 2022 game with all the losses Iowa State is expected to have after this season, with all their Super Seniors.
Iowa has a several Super Seniors of their own. Two are Iowans leading special team roles.
“This is like their Super Bowl,” Iowa running back Tyler Goodson.
Who’s ‘their?’ Oh boy, Goodson went there. He wasn’t talking about the collective state; he pointed directly at Iowa State. Nothing grates on Cyclone fans more than Hawkeye fans popping the Super Bowl reference with little brother condescension. It’s laced with residue from Iowa’s 15-year winning streak, the Hawkeyes’ historical success and the Cyclones’ perpetual bouts of mediocrity — pre-Matt Campbell, of course, Scott Dochterman shared.
“They haven’t beaten us in a couple years,” said Goodson, referring to Iowa’s current five-game winning streak. “I think them being at their home place knowing (ESPN’s) College GameDay is going to be there is a good distraction for them and allows us just to focus on us.
“It’ll be exciting going over there and taking the hostility out of the crowd and the excitement out of their fans and just going over there and getting the win.”
What’s a rivalry without a little smack talk, anyway?

Dochterman: We've never seen a bigger Cy-Hawk game than this Saturday, and we may never see one like it again
Iowa and Iowa State will face off for the first time as ranked opponents and the high stakes are worthy of the state's embrace.
