Open mat rankings.

TheOpenMat.com has released its NCAA Division I Individual College Wrestling Rankings for December 15, 2015. Athletes who are known to be redshirting, injured for a prolonged amount of time or are known to be coming back the second semester are not ranked. During the season, wrestlers who miss two weeks of scheduled competition (excluding opens), will be removed from the rankings (with some exceptions based on available information). They will be returned to the rankings when the compete. Ineligible student-athletes are not ranked, even if they are competing in open tournaments and plan to return to the lineup in the second semester. When they return eligible, they will be ranked. Wrestlers removed this week: (133) Joey Ward (North Carolina), (149) Hunter Stieber (Ohio State), Christian Pagdilao (Arizona State), (157) Austin Matthews (Edinboro), Joey LaVallee (Missouri), (184) Vic Avery (Edinboro), (285) Joe Stolfi (Bucknell). *note these are not official records and include all wins and losses expect the All-Star Classic.

IMO, the Open Mat provides the MOST ACCURATE rankings. The Open Mat DOES NOT rank injured or inelgible wrestlers until its a KNOWN that their in the line-up. I believe they also remove other biases like that of FLO. I have ALWAYS disregarded FLO rankings FWIW.
Interesting takes:
Iowa:
Brooks moves to #3 (Open Mat) in contrast to #7 Intermat
Stoll enters rankings up to #10
And Cooper Jr. UNRANKED (Open Mat) but #16 Intermat

Hidden Unknown- Brody Grothus-Has tremendous "UPSIDE" but his health and remaining healthy is the key.

Entering the MIdlands, here's my opinion if they would wrestle Nationals today.
125-Top 4
133-Top 4
141-unknown
149-Top 3
157-NQ
165-no points
174-Top 5
184-Top 4
197- Top 4
HWT- Top 8

If healthy, I believe Grothus is a Top 5 guy. Let's see what happens at Midlands.

Thanks.....appreciate it.

WOW....P4P has Brandon #1 with Dieringer #2. Nice. Then Brooks #9, Clark #16, Stoll #35, Gilman #37, and Burak #74. Meyer at #124.

125-#3, 133-#2, 141-#49,149-#1 157-#19, 165-?? Couldn't find Rhoads listed anywhere SHP. 174-#11, 184-#2, 197-#7, 285-#5

OOPS-Just found Rhoads listed under "Not Enough Matches"

I don't see how any ranking system could have Brooks at #9 P4P. In my mind, he's no better than the #11 184-pounder.

It's the criteria Seton Hall Pirate has established that's very close to form. I hope you're not serious WWDMHawkeye. If so, shame on you.

Classy PapaBearSLIM. I'll just reserve myself to zipping the lip. Good Luck to you and the Gophers.
Good to hear. FWIW I quoted the wrong post. Although it was my own humorous quip at SHP's computer rankings, it was meant in direct reapose to "WOW....P4P has Brandon #1 with Dieringer #2. Nice. Then Brooks #9, Clark #16, Stoll #35, Gilman #37, and Burak #74. Meyer at #124"

I assume you used #11 because Brooks beat the #12 guy in this ranking (Nick Gravina) fairly handily (11-5), and two days before that same #12 guy beat #7 (and All-American, if you'd rather go by performance in a prior year) Tim Dudley.

SHP - WWDM made that reference in jest due to Brooks being ranked as the #12 wrestler at 184 in a recent ranking.

Not even remotely close to serious. Maybe a little too subtle to be humorous, however.

I'm a huge Brooks fan. I think he's a legit national title contender and laughed at his early-season ranking, which he's proving to have been worth a good chuckle.

Trying to decipher the trace elements of sarcasm infused in WWDM's posts is far beyond my pay grade.
