OSU Meet Updates

Good win for Brooks. He came out mean and aggressive. He wasn't losing that one. Kollin Moore looks like a future national champion to me. Granted Wilke folded like a cheap tent but that is an impressive freshman.

I agree on Moore. He was looking to score the entire match. You don't see that kind of match from the big guys very often.

Wow, we'll be fighting for 4h/5th place. Let's hope all our commits stick for next year.

I seriously hope Holloway can make the cut next year and beat Wilke if he stays up. With the right attitude and confidence he's better than Wilke.

Why'd they wave off the points for Holloway?

Called Hannibal for stalling. I think that is the one you are talking about. You would think they could do something about that. Bottom guy is working a reversal but because the guy on top grabs the leg they give a 5 count and stop the action. Maybe in that case you hold the stall call and if action really stops then call the stalling, but if the bottom guy is working it and making progress let him continue to work. It is a call that is intended to punish the guy stalling but bailed him out in this case. Now it didn't end up meaning much in the match, but it could.

I thought the officiating was all over the place tonight. His starts were different times even in the same match, must've been 6-7 cautions.

Unfournately, he became a large part of the dual imo

Seen way more cautions in the last couple years all around, there was something that changed with the rules regarding that right? Maybe the refs are intentionally blowing the whistle randomly now instead of having a set cadence before?

That was the one. Thanks for the clarification.

since when do they stop the wrestling to issue a stall call though....thats what I didnt understand....couldn't believe they didn't give the reversal there

Brands eluded to it a bit in his post match interview. You didn't see them argue it mat side too much. No challenge anyway, not that you can challenge it since they stopped the action just prior to the reversal. Maybe get away from the restart... could you imagine a guy about to be turned and then they call the bottom guy for stalling and give him a restart. The rule in this point is not accomplishing what is intended.... I guess another option would be awarding a point for dropping down to a leg for 5 seconds no matter if a warning had been called previously.

They have to stop the match as punishment for riding the leg, IMO. Giving bottom guy a restart to try and get out.

They don't always blow the whistle on traditional stall calls but on the new 5 count stallls (locked on a leg or side headlock) they will always stop the action to issue the stall.

yea I guess I'm not used to some of the newer rules...I do love the stalling call for hanging on legs like that...guess I never noticed them stopping the action to award it before...hard to miss in that circumstance...personally I wish they would just call it like normal and let them keep wrestling....the top wrestler is going to have to either move up or let go at that point

I guess they should call the stall and stop the action after 5 seconds - unless the bottom man is very near scoring and then give him another 5-10 seconds to complete the score. If he doesn't score in the 10 seconds, stop the action. Seems like the reasonable thing to do. Seems like in the standing position, we occasionally see the stall call without stopping the action followed by the escape.
