OT: AJ Epenesa's HS BB team loses to Chicago Simeon... end of season

AJ and his 4 star BB teammate Mark Smith with the rest of the Edwardsville, IL team collided with CPL powerhouse Chicago Simeon and lost a tough game 76- 64. I always watch the IL HS state playoffs but it would have been nice for AJ to see him play a couple of game at the state finals.

That Smith kid has EXPLODED onto the scene. He wasn't even being recruited at the start of the year. Now he is getting all sorts of Power 5 attention. I think there were a few Big Ten schools in the mix for him.

Simeon threw a lot of doubleteams at Smith to wear him out. Smith is still a high quality 4 star (Rivals #78 versus CMac #112) Combo guard. ILLANNOY wants him but they have a three other guards in this class although there is word that the class may break up if the wrong coach is selected. UNC(Roy Williams) is trying to get Jeremiah Tilmon to get a release from his LOI to ILLANNOY. Tilmon is still a one and done candidate.

Indiana is probably going to release Crean after the loss to GA Tech last night. California's Head Coach Cuonzo Martin did not help himself with another poor tournament showing.

Too bad Fran does not have another scholarship opening (??) as Mark would be a great addition to go with JoBo and Iowa's offense after Jok graduates.

California was missing two starters for the game, both double digit scorers. It would be difficult for any team to overcome a loss of that magnitude.

I'm not as familiar with the Illinois setup as I used to be, so I was surprised that a Chicago team played a south team before state. Do they still play semis and finals the same day at state?.

Partly due to the fact he had committed to playing baseball, but has now opened up his recruiting and looking at basketball now.

Would not be surprising to see Dailey leave if he is unhappy with his PT and doesn't want the competition. Meanwhile, Cuonzo leaves Charlie Moore behind for $3.5 million per year payday. There ought to be limits to what coaches can make off the efforts of unpaid athletes.
