It is certainly one of the worst large college towns I've been to.
Online population says 58,965 so they must be including ISU students in the 96k number. Gotta love how they think up in Lames.
Iowa City has a population of 67,862 and there is no way the student population is included in that number. Iowa city honest and not sucking like little brother town.
Funny for us Hawkeye fans, but really? At least Ames is a college town (although not a great one). The state of Iowa is chock-full of lousy cities.
Ames has to be including students and some of the surrounding area.. Agree with most boring. No reason to go there except to visit the college.
The Des Moines metro area. I live in Ankeny which is over 60,000 now.
That's kinda the point. For a P5 college town...it's lame. No energy, no vibe, nothing hip about it. Never has been. Doesn't really stand out much from a Dubuque or Council Bluffs.

And if the category were "Most disappointing city" or "Most boring city that you'd think would be more exciting," I would completely agree.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of Ames at all. But to call a city with Big 12 sports and a top-notch performing arts center "the most boring in the State of Iowa" sounds like it was something an Iowa grad came up with. Whoever wrote that has apparently never been to Ottumwa or Fort Dodge, to name a few.
Perhaps most "Underperforming". But hey...there is that water...and a wildly overrated bbq restaurant.
Ames blows. Best childhood friend moved there around age 10 or so. Spent a fair amount of time there in my early teenage years and into midteens. Lame and boring. So boring, he moved back with his dad in Podunk Iowa for high school.
There is literally NOTHING to do. For the guy that called out college sports and performing arts......blech. Clown sports are not real, and happen 30 days a year. Singing and dancing...pass.

I wonder which one of us has spent more time in Ames? I will bet on me. Many weekends and weeks during summers. Sans college parties, there is zip to do. Zip. What is your experience with Ames? A visit for a Hawkeye game now and then?
I don't like singing and dancing together, cheesy and both art forms suffer when combined. You like it? Good for you, you like boring, substandard singing and terrible choreographed dancing.
And yes the clowns blow. That is independent of Ames suckage.

Regarding how “boring” Ames is...I’ve lived here for 22 years. Great place to raise a family and it’s not boring unless you choose to see it that way. The wrong university is located here, but other than that, it’s a good place. I grew up in small town Iowa, went to the U of I, and moved to Ames. Nothing wrong with this place, and there are more Hawkeye fans here than you would think.

Must be a minimum population for consideration. Because there are probably over a hundred more boring cities in the state.
