This seems bogus to me.

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa is facing a wide-ranging federal civil rights investigation into allegations that its athletics department does not provide equal opportunities for female athletes, correspondence obtained by The Associated Press shows.

The Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education is looking into gender bias allegations in 13 areas, including how the department counts participation levels, awards scholarships, schedules practices and games and delivers services such as tutoring, medical attention, housing and dining. A team of investigators will visit the Iowa City campus in April, according to documents released Thursday under the open records law.

This is not something to kiss off as insignificant. I think the feds have sniffed around Ames, too. Better hope the people in charge have their ducks in a row. Title IX is, on the whole, an excellent piece of legislation but the way it has been interpreted/enforced by some over-zealous bureaucrats is reason for concern.

Typical leftwing crap. Football pays for women athletics a swell as most of the other sports. Lets go after football because so many men get scholarships it is not fair. They can kill the goose that lays the golden egg,

I think the bureaucrats would be happier if no one got scholarships and far fewer could go to college.

Time to throw out this leftist, administrative bs and also move this thread to
Off Topic. It has ZERO to do with Iowa Football.

Maybe start a Field Hockey forum for the OP

Are you off your meds?

One thing I've always liked about Iowa is they've always seemed to hire female coaches for women's sports. Would be surprising it the athletes got a short shift with that sort of conscious effort being made.

What do they expect when a couple football games probably creates more revenue than all womens sports combined?

If they aren't happy and can't come close to breaking even...then cancel them!!
Clearly very few people care to watch them.
Women's season tickets for bball are like $6/game and they still can't sell them? Cmon now....Tickets to high school games are probably that much.

Playing sports is not a right!

Sports are entertainment. Let the marketplace decide. I'm looking at you WNBA!

Excellent piece of legislation? Tell that to the numerous wrestling, baseball, and other programs that have been cut due to this excellent piece of legislation. Look, I have a daughter who plays sports and I want her to have the opportunity to continue to play sports....but not at the expense of other programs, at the expense of others' dreams of playing D1 sports. I think the idea of Title IX is wonderful, but in practice it is horrible

This investigation was initiated on the basis of a complaint. Do you want them to ignore complaints? Obviously you do. Which complaints do you want them to ignore? Should they at least see it the complaint is warranted or should they run it by you first?
