Live webcam 39 miles off the coast of North Carolina. Scary looking for the people that chose to stay there and wait it out but cool to watch the storm approaching also.

The sustained winds of hurricanes are what really impresses me and freaks me out. We’ve all seen bad storms in Iowa where wind gusts may hit 60 or even 70 mph. For a second or two. The strongest hurricanes bring winds that approach 200 mph and blow uninterrupted for long periods of time. The strength of these storms is hard to imagine.

I’m in Raleigh. Our area will get some impact, especially rain, but will miss the worst. This storm will not be remembered so much as a wind event (Cat 2 right now) so much as a water event, much like Harvey in Houston area last year.

Storm is projected to slow to a crawl over the next three days as it comes inland over Wilmington. It will keep dumping water into the same basic area before moving on. Expecting massive flooding as a result.

Yuck. Sorry to hear that and best of luck and we will be hoping for the best.
