Bettendorf must have really improved from the beginning of the season if they are he only team that can compete. They only beat West at home 10-7 and their only td was a turnover deep in their own territory. West is decent but not what they have been in the last few years.

No idea about 4A, don't care. But A, 1A and 2A should be fun.

A - two really good teams in Sioux Central and Belmond-Klemme got left out. Taking Garrigan or AHSTW for the title.

1A - South Central Calhoun looks really good, but as always don't count out the NW Iowa teams: West Sioux and West Lyon.

2A - rooting for Algona or BH/RV. Spirit Lake is also pretty damn good and SE Valley on offense is legit.

I saw 1A SCC play. Their skill guys are as good as any at that level and should get a few back next week. Their OL/DL are big but not very good. Definitely not physical.

I would say Dike is my favorite to win it.

How does a 4-5 team make the playoffs?

Yeah it’s the RPI factor this year. The IAHSAA has to make changes, there were teams that were 6-3 or 7-2 left out. Meanwhile you have a 4-5 team getting in.

Coaches wanted to make it be 24 teams and the state said, “32 or 16” that’s the only options.

This....Bettendorf also barely beat Hempstead early on. If not for some bad chop block calls Hempstead wins. Hempstead loaded with Sophs.

Garrigan kinda reminds me of Emmetsburg at the end of their dynasty where they were just keeping that regular season win streak going because of who they were playing, and then usually got beat by better teams in the playoffs before the championship.

Garrigan made the title game recently, but having watched A football the last few years, there's just not been a lot of really good teams out there. A couple at the top and then a whole lot of clutter in that second tier.

I don't know about that first part, they beat three damn good teams in West Hancock, Belmond-Klemme and Newman Catholic. We played them last night and they look like a small college team. They're QB is excellent and their TE is basically indefensible at the HS level. They'll be a really tough out this year, in my opinion.

Their district was very good for class A or 1A.

If they're a small college team, then some of the Class A-1A teams I watched that I have in mind 3-4 years ago were Division 2..........

Just sayin.

I've seen better.

Wow — some serious eastern Iowa bias in this thread. Valley is very tough, as are Centennial and Dowling. Don’t sleep on Dowling — they may not be as tough as in recent years when they’ve won state titles repeatedly, but they tend to peak late in the season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make it to the Dome.

Centennial and Valley are 1-2 for a good reason — they’re tough as nails and loaded with talent as usual.

Glad we agree. :)

I'm in the tractor so hot post before I meant to.

The fact is they're a very large A football team, that's not debatable. And they're large at the skill positions which is unusual.

And mostly I was talking issue with you saying they hadn't played anybody. District 3 was incredibly tough and they played and beat another playoff team in the non-con.

So I definitely don't agree.

Treynor will beat West Sioux on Friday......I hope.

Iowa is starting their HS football playoffs and Texas is still in regular season. Playoffs here will not end until week before Christmas.

This year they had a few good teams on their schedule. But none of those teams are/were gonna compete for a title.

West Hancock won't. Newman probably won't either. Haven't seen their playoff road yet.

So now those teams are only good if they're gonna compete for the championship? The narrative here keeps changing.

I want them to lose, too. But I was impressed by them last night, that's all.
I wasn't impressed with them when I watched them play and they won that game by over 40 pts......(Its the little things)

And then when they had to deal with injuries and were unideally playing sophomores at positions you don't want sophomores to play at, they struggled to beat a team that lost to that same team they beat by over 40.......and I smiled at how easily the tables could turn given the situations.

Ya, agree, some major football in dsm metro with dowling catholic, valley, and centennial. Dowling is peaking, dont count them out. ;)
