OT: Iowa HS Football Playoffs

It’s up to the school. If both schools can reach date and agreement than the game is approved by the state. If your school doesn’t lineup teams the state will lineup schools for you. There we three games played out of state last year. There will be more 2020 when schools have enough time to lineup games that the state will approve

Your last sentence is the whole arguement. If the state agrees to it. Why should the state care? Let the schools set their own non-conf schedule. It would give the schools the option of who to play. Also I think there needs to be a bonus for playing a team in an upper class. I think that’s BS that playing a school larger than you counts the same.

The whole system is messed up and the state just wants to control everything.

The state has final say believe it or not. It happens in every sport. U reach agreement with a school than the state says yes or no.

Best game in the metro tonight? Just looking at it I would guess Johnston and CR Prairie. I saw that Luke mentioned three players from this game as his players with Iowa Interest, Simmons and Anderagg from Prairie and Lemon from Johnston (I think they had a couple other guys that had visited this year too) Anyone have any thoughts on this 8-9 game?

Johnston by at least 2 TDs.

Just makes no sense that they need to have the final say. Its district football and yes they can make the districts. I think the schools should find their own games. I mean if a school is in charge of their scheduling, then they have zero beef with being left out. I realize some schools do not like to play a class size smaller, but there are enough schools in the smaller classes, they can find opponents to play. Also it seems like the state really doesn't set up to many across state games (east vs west). Why not make 1 week a west vs east showdown with districts. With Highway 20 finished across the state, most schools are within 2-3 hours of each other. Could make for some interesting match-ups. Also allow the "out of state" games.

So are those guys from Prairie not that good?

I'm sure they're good but Waukee went out and played at Prairie earlier this season and destroyed them. Johnston and Waukee are basically a pick 'em, Waukee beat them last week by 1 at home. I think Prairie's schedule was pretty soft compared to Johnston.

They were both 7-2, and separated by only .0066 points in the RPI. I wouldn’t say it’s all that much softer than Johnston’s SOS.

West Sioux's always been the redheaded stepchild of Sioux County high school sports, perennial cellar dwellars in FB and basketball, so I've always just considered them an afterthought.
There's your answer right there once you see how successful they are in boys sports across the board.......

North Scott rolls 39-9 over WS-R and Nebby recruit Mosai Newsome. Mosai must have wreaked havoc on them, lol.
According to people on here, Solon was going to steamroll North Scott, but Solon got steamrolled by Western Dubuque 48-13. Oh, and Xavier was going to steam roll 'everybody' but only beat Pella 14-6.

I was at the WSR game tonight and they just killed themselves with TWO pick 6’s in the 3rd qtr. Mosai is a good player but I’ve never thought he was elite. He often goes unnoticed in high school.

Just watched North Scott kick the hell out of Waverly Shell Rock. Nebraska can have Mosai Newsom. Most overhyped player I’ve seen in a long time.

How cold does it get for these high school games in Iowa this time of the year ?
Mid to upper 40’s tonight with light winds. It’s been below average though lately. After next Friday’s quarterfinals the games are in the UNi-Dome. Probably be in the upper 30’s next week during games.

Valley/Dowling next week is the real championship game, right? I feel like Cedar Falls might be able to give the winner a good game at the dome if they get by Waukee, but both of those teams are a cut above the rest to me.

Valley didn't look like it tonight! If they play like that again next week, Dowling is going to crush Valley, as much as it pains me to say it. Either way, CF can more than give either of those two a run for their money with their size and length. Huge OL (270, 285, 298, 285, 300), 6'4" WR Logan Wolf, 6'5" QB Cael Loecher, and 6'7" TE Jackson Frericks make for matchup nightmares for everyone, not to mention fewer points given up by their first team defense than anyone in 4A.This team can beat anyone in the state, Valley and Dowling included, especially playing at home in the dome. This team also several players from the state championship winning basketball team earlier this year, and is trying to win one in football in the same calendar year.

Yeah, so glad Xavier and Pella got to play in the first round. This RPI thing is really just spot on. Honestly, just have people that know something about high school football seed the top two teams in each district subjectively.

Eastern Iowa 4A schools get dominated by Des Moines every year. This year will be no different. Quality of talent, play, coaching just way better out here. My money would be on Valley or Centennial.
I would have said the same. Crazy first round with Centennial going down to SE Polk and Valley surviving a scare at home from Ankeny.

Lots of close games in every class. Good to see, but I’ll be interested to see how the state reshuffles after the next round.

A couple of shockers in all classes and i was shocked to see AC go down. SE Polk must of played a really tough schedule!

The Dome is almost as much of a home field for Dowling lately. Cedar Falls has talent, the WR is very good and the QB throws a nice ball. I think vs. Valley or Dowling the talent level is equalized and the difference is coaching and gameplanning which is where a team like CF will be at a disadvantage. CR Kennedy I think was undefeated a few years ago with loads of talent as well and Dowling walked through them 41-10, game was over in the first half.

You’re thinking of CR Wash, and they don’t have half the tradition, talent, and development as CF does.

2015 it was Dowling v. Kennedy. Both 13-0 going into title game. Kennedy had Beyers kid who's now at Iowa.
