OT. Kansas City is up 19 on Missouri.

They were only down 2 to Minnesota their opening game with 7 minutes to go.

They actually tried to run an offense and control tempo against Iowa. They’re not bad.

The problem with Iowa’s schedule is more the 300+ kenpom teams. Not UMKC.

These early season teams sometimes prove better than we think at the time. KCMO obviously can play some good ball-just spanked an SEC team that has one of the best HS basketball recruiting areas in their back yard.

I think we're a good team as long as we're hitting from outside and the opponent doesn't have a good big man, which sadly is a number of teams in the B1G.

I think we need to tap the brakes a little. Missouri is an SEC team where not much was expected this season.

Sports Illustrated ranked all 358 teams on November 2nd.

They had Missouri #97 overall and 12th in the SEC.

They had Minnesota #141 and dead last in the B1G. Minnesota beat Kansas City 71-56 on Nov 9.

They had Kansas City #243 and 5th in the Summit.

They had IOWA 63rd overall and 10th in the B1G. Iowa beat Kansas City 89-57 on Nov 12.

Their preseason Top 10:

1 Gonzaga
2 Texas
3 Kansas
4 UCLA
5 Michigan
6 Memphis
7 Baylor
8 Purdue
9 Kentucky
10 Villanova

THE REST OF THE B1G:

16 Illinois
18 Ohio State
19 Indiana
24 Maryland
33 Michigan State
41 Rutgers
52 Wisconsin
63 IOWA
71 Northwestern
85 Penn State
88 Nebraska
141 Minnesota

OTHERS:

53 Drake
76 Northern Iowa
108 Iowa State

As a basketball analyst, KC did what they planned to do to Iowa. Their game plan was to use as much of the shot clock as possible to limit Iowa's possessions. Iowa wants to run and KC did a great job of slowing the tempo, hence the 37-23 halftime score. They "muddied" the game and Iowa had to adjust. As an analyst, Fran's goal in their pre-conference schedule is to get the players "comfortable" in their new roles, establish some cohesiveness on both ends of the floor and establish a lineup rotation what will give them various ways to play. I agree with most poster on the board that our pre-conference schedule is "light", but to have any kind of success this season, this team needs these games to maximize their potential. I may be father to a couple of players, but I was a coach/analyst before they were Hawkeyes and this is my "blinders off" evaluation of this team. And, KC is a good team who will have success in their conference.

I agree with everything you said just wish there was a way to play more 200ish teams to accomplish that rather than 300+ to give them a better shot at NCAAs. I do think this team will surprise in B1G play though and hopefully enough to get to the dance. Will be a fun season.

Of course, Iowa had the best big man--the best player--in the nation last year plus another future NBA player, and how did that turn out?

Good shooting, decent rebounding, and good defense can beat anyone. Again, see Iowa last season if you don't believe that. Or check out last night's Marquette victory over Cockburn and the #10 Illini. LOL

Kofi did not play. Illinois guards played poorly down the stretch they are very bearable.

Illini had TWENTY SIX turnovers last night. Curbelo led the way with seven.

I know I'm probably wrong about this, but the last time I remember Iowa having 26 turnovers in a game might have been back in the Lickliter era, when we were routinely extremely generous with the ball.

If Martin could coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He's more concerned with social justice and the BLM then what he's putting on the court. Thats fine I guess, but not what he's getting paid for at Mizzou....

Maybe that is precisely the point of his compensation. Its ****ing demented but its a dangerous real thing.

Much easier for Shaw to transfer to Iowa these days. He won't have to sit out a season
The transfer portal is a NIL bidding war for football and b-ball players. Some teams are using NIL agencies to secure deals for players to lure then to their school. If you don’t come with a NIL deal, don’t even try.
