Fun fact: Liberty had some trouble scheduling FBS opponents during it's first transition year to FBS, so it'll play NMSU in a home and home. It'll be mildly interesting to see how this turns out. I don't recall seeing a true home and home in a single season in college football.

Both teams are independent. Guess Notre Dame didn’t have any openings.

It would appear to be the first time at the D1 level since 2013 when Abilene Christian (transitioning to FCS in their case) did a home and home with Incarnate Word. Interestingly, Abilene won the home game 40-6, then lost three weeks later 34-31 on the road.

Ok, I am intrigued on Liberty. They are definitely on the move as a university with their online enrollment. Looks like they are trying to make a move to enhance their program by going FBS.

NMSU barely hanging onto D1 status.

Liberty buying their way into D1 status.

Nice pull!

It is an interesting situation, OP, regardless of who it involves. Thanks for pointing it out.
