OT - Mike Krzyzewski retiring after this coming season

the end of an era...

I don't follow Duke....but from afar it seems like the times that their record has taken a serious drop have been whenever he was out with health issues.....so hopefully this is the transition out of the elite status in college basketball.

The bag man is still going to be there regardless of the hire. I look for a Tressel type return life after Duke after Duke does a typical nothing to see here review of what has happened. All of the blue bloods getting a stain after the feds get involved. If only the colleges would get together and create an enforcement arm. They could call it the NCAA.

Coach K has certainly had an amazing career at Duke. He learned from Bobby Knight while Knight was making a name for himself as a young coach. That said, I think he realizes it is time to step down. We will probably see him next on one the networks who will pay him big bucks to be an analyst.

That's exactly it. The blue bloods haven't had as much success in recruiting since then. Something tells me a lot of these blue blood coaches are realizing the feds are still keeping a close watch on things, much more than the NCAA itself is.

I think a lot of these coaches hung around thinking the feds would've backed off much sooner and they'd be able to get back to their recruiting ways, but realize that's not going to be happening anytime soon. The parity we've seen in college basketball in recent years isn't a coincidence.

It also seemed his health was an issue when the team wasn't as good as he wanted it to be.

Good news is Coach TwoFace will be gone within a year. Never was a fan. Puts on a good show for the media, but is as negative as then come.

Bad news will be the season long Coach K circle jerk on ESPN/CBS.

Agree with an earlier post. I expect Duke to sneak into the tournament at 17-15. Probably a 2 or 3 seed. All games to be played at Cameron.

Probably relief in Ames that they are going with Scheyer as I heard their second choice was Otzelberger.

To sandwich your bad news with some good news, ESPN and CBS are already a Coach K circle jerk all year long, so at least the end is in sight

Hope not. Vitale's schtick is bad enough, but I surely don't want to have to listen to Coach K's sanctimonious snarl an entire game.

I think it’s funny that K was from Chicago and used that fact to pull a lot of top talent out of Illinois over the years, including Scheyer. Now Scheyer will continue where K left off.

lol

FU, Illini.

I thought Chris Collins would be a logical hire

But it looks like they have already made a decision

I thought Collins would be too. Collins has to be upset he wasn't selected. I always thought Collins was just waiting around for his opportunity at Duke. Now that it's not going to happen, I wonder if he start looking for other opportunities.
