OT: Pitt RB James Conner has cancer

Sorry to hear this. That said, if you're going to have any form of cancer, Hodgkin's is a good one to have. It generally responds very well to treatment and has a high cure rate.

Wow that sucks. Best wishes to him and his family and the Pitt family.

His cancer has a high success rate. Hopefully he beats it and returns to football, or just has a long fulfilling life.

I remember well how this used to be a death sentence when I was a Med student at Iowa many years ago. 100% different know. he should totally beat this. Prayers to him.

I agree with the cure rate, for our daughter, was diagnosed when she was 20. Prayers for him for a total recovery.

It's been a tough year for him, but he's a tough guy and will fight like hell. Hope it all works out for him!

Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. This kind of thing is a quick reminder that football is just a game.

Flip Saunders was diagnosed with this during the summer. He had just gotten done w/ all his treatments when he got some kind of infection/fever. He was admitted to the Mayo Clinic and never left; in 6 weeks he was gone. The MN Timberwolves owner said that the doctors could never turn the corner and his health kept declining over those 6 weeks.

Someone whose mother had been battling cancer told me that after chemo, your immune system is vulnerable so if you get some kind of infection, you are in trouble because you have minimal immunity to fight it off.

Never assume anything with cancer.

Thank you guys. Classy bunch here at Iowa. Have had some great discussions in the week before our game and I think we all agree a Pitt-Iowa annual series would be awesome. Some great games there. Means a lot to hear these kind words from every school such as PSU, Rutgers, and Iowa.

On a side note, let's get Upper St. Clair's own Kirk Ferentz that Big Ten Championship today!

Holy crap!

That's terrible for someone just entering adulthood to deal with. It's fantastic that this is a highly curable form of cancer - and his prognosis is likely quite good - but that still doesn't detract from the shock and fear it instills into people when they get the news on their diagnosis.

Best wishes for a fast and complete recovery for him.
Real-life problems have a way of making sports related Ws/Ls seem so insignificant in comparison...

Another thanks to the Iowa bunch here. Tough loss yesterday but I think you guys proved yourself amongst the nation's best. I've been arguing with fans on the Lair as I think those were the two best Big Ten teams last night. I think Iowa is a better team than OSU this year.

Keep your heads ups guys! Ferentz will do even bigger things at Iowa one day. One of my favorite coaches (other than Narduzzi) in the country.

Good luck in whatever bowl game you go to!
And please, please, please, pleeeeeease, beat Penn State next year!

Puts thing in perspective on a day when the board is still upset about yesterday
Keep your heads up Hawkeyes! You had a great season. I argue daily with other Pitt fans about Iowa. I think you guys are a fantastic team. The notion I hear that Iowa is not that talented is ridiculous. Great coach, outstanding cornerback, and a helluva good QB. Good luck in the Rose Bowl!
