I was looking at the slate of games for tonight/tomorrow and noticed that there are a high number of schools playing D2s and D3s.

I first learned this was even legal when UNI played Wartburg and then another D3 the following year.

My question is: how many can you play in a year and how does it affect your NET ranking or SOS? I only noticed all this because I saw Grambling is 6-5 and was surprised. I then looked up their schedule to see they have played 4 such schools already.

I figured Grambling, and other low majors, would be interested in being the blowout team for more big schools so that they could make enough money to keep their program alive.

Without looking at UNI’s team sheet, I’m pretty sure they’re not counted for NET purposes. If that’s the case it certainly makes a helluva lot more sense to play them than the scrub D1 teams.

I could have that wrong but that’s at least how it used to be.

I also wonder if it counts in your win total for the committee's purpose... Again, most of these teams playing the D2 or D3 schools are going to be your 200+ teams.

I have absolutely no doubt that they wouldn't have a chance to win...but I'd love to see Grinnell play a D1 school, even a low level. Just to see if they can force the D1 to play at their pace. I mean, they'll intentionally give up quick lay ups to get the ball back, would a D1 be able to force their pace on Grinnell?

Didn’t they play Iowa State about a decade ago? I may be wrong.

it’s a good time going to Grinnell to watch them. Admission is free and it’s enjoyable.
