OT: Roy Marble passes away

Wow what a week. Two of the greatest hawkeyes of all time pass away in a single week. I will proudly wear the black and gold even more than i already do. RIP Roy & Tyler.

Sad to hear...guy was one of the original Flintstones (played hs ball at Flint Beecher in MI)

One of the greatest Hawkeye players has now gone to
that Big Basketball Court in the Sky. May Roy Marble
be remembered for his accomplishments in Iowa City.

WOW!!!!!!
My thoughts and prayers going out to the Marble family.

I am proud to say that I have witnessed 2 of the greatest HAWKEYE athletes to preform in their perspective sports.

Truly has been a sad week in HAWKEYE fandom.

R.I.P Roy & Tylor you will all ways be remembered.

I really wish the U of I would have retired Roy's number last year when they recognized him. I wanted him to be there and have that experience.

They certainly should have. One of the many screw up's under this doofus A.D. It is a complete embarrassment that they did not retire his number and get him the correct jersey.

Roy was a fighter when he played basketball for us as #23, and even more of a fighter this past year, against all odds. Two beloved Hawkeyes gone from us this week. I am devastated. All of us are. R.I.P #23 and #9. They will both have the best seats in the house as we BEAT IOWA STATE tomorrow.

I remember watching the UNLV final 8 game. Late in the first half they ran that back door lob to Marble for a great dunk. It put Iowa up by, can't quite remember, but a lot. I jumped up so high in my basement, I scraped my knuckles on the ceiling.

Him, BJ, Eddie, were only sophs. So many good Roy moments.

RIP

Rough week. All the best to both families and all of their friends. IDK if our love from a distance matters to them or not right now, but it's there and we shouldn't forget it.

Iowa, do us proud tomorrow, and win like the Hawks did against Michigan State the next game after Christ Street died, which is about the last time I felt as emotional about a game as the one we're playing tomorrow...

Here's an interesting article to read on what happened 20 years later, when Roy Devyn Marble reflects on Street then too. Let's give him appreciation for his father today too. Also, read the segment about how five Iowa State players all wore the number 40 on their unis the day after Street passed... Classy then, and I would hope and expect them to also be classy tomorrow, and have us remember this game, whatever happens, in a way that all of us can look back on respectfully later.

20 Years Later, Street's Legacy Lives On At Iowa

Nearly every college coach publicly touted Street, from Indiana's Bob Knight to Duke's Mike Krzyzewski. The greatest gesture of all came from cross-state rival Iowa State.

One day after Street's death, five different Cyclones players, including current coach Fred Hoiberg, wrote "40" on their shoes or wristbands to honor Street. The team attended the funeral. ISU's Morgan Wheat switched his number to 40 the rest of that season. Hoiberg, an AAU teammate of Street, followed the next year. ISU coach Johnny Orr honored Street by having an Iowa-born player wear No. 40 every year for the rest of his coaching career.

"I think that said that lot certainly about Chris but competition in the state as well," Davis said.

"It went beyond school colors. They loved him as a person," said Chris' father, Mike Street. "They loved him as an athlete, and they respected him."
