Cedar Falls plays them in the first round at state next week and just curious what kind a team Lincoln has. TIA.

Thanks wyo but just looking for men's hoops info and if anyone has seen them play.

Tony Bonner is the CBAL player to worry about. He's their center that puts up about 20 a game. They have very athletic point guards, and CBAL's all time leading scorer at SG in Kyle Crowl. He's actually committed to Iowa for baseball. I predict CBAL wins that game.

AL has only lost one game this year and Thst was in Minneapolis over the holidays in a showcase event. It will all come down to how the AL players handle the bright lights and how they shoot. They have some talented guards but outside of the trip to Minneapolis and a couple of games in Omaha, they haven't seen guard play like they will in Des Moines. Bonner won't wow you with athleticism or any kind of dynamic post game but managed to get his points. Has a nice touch around the basket. They're not super deep and they aren't bringing any real marquee players to Des Moines. Just a solid team that plays well together and if they're shooting it well, they're a tough out.
I like Cedar Falls and think Green is awfully talented. I think this game is probably 50/50. I don't see AL as a true favorite. Should be a good game.

He's 6'7". He's headed to division 2 Wayne state to play basketball. He's limited athletically but he's VERY good at using his body and like I said, has nice touch around the basket. One of those kids that probably squeezes as much out of his athleticism as he can.
The heart and soul of the team though is point guard Treyvontae Jones. Tough kid, sold all around player, and he's the heartbeat. He fractured a bone in his skull a few weeks ago in a game taking an elbow and he's playing with a mask but he's looked ok so far since he came back. My question mark for him and all of the AL guards is they haven't seen guard play like they'll see in Des Moines save for a trip to Minneapolis and a game or two in Omaha. I honestly think AL can play with anyone in the CIML and most of the northern MVC teams. It's the Iowa City Wests and Pleasant Valleys that I'm not sure they match up well with. I like Cedar Falls' team. Green is a heck of a player and he'll be the best player on the floor in the AL game. That said, AL is solid and if they shoot it well it could be an uphill climb for Cedar Falls. I think it's gonna be a really good game.

Thanks for the response. Should be a good battle in the paint. Tre'Von Fagan is the best all around player for CF. 6'7", plays above the rim, good shooter and good with the ball for a kid that size. He was a wing player until last year when his height basically pushed him down into the paint.

I hope basketball fans will get to see Trey Labeaux in the open floor. I have watched high school basketball in Iowa for some time and there aren't many kids that have come through the state that can dunk like him. Incredible athlete.

One interesting thing about AL's team is they've integrated 3 players into the rotation the last 11 games or so that they didn't have early in the year. One had led them in scoring in both postseason games and can shoot it in Justin Neyland. They also have a 6'5" athletic wing player in Landen Torneton who could be an x factor in the game, and 6'7" Trey Nixon who is coming off acl surgery. AL's bigs aren't super athletic, certainly would never be confused for wing players although Nixon has been able to step out in shoot in past seasons when healthy. So an athletic 6'7" passing above the rim could pose real problems for them. I feel comfortable saying AL is the better shooting team and I think ultimately that's what this game will cone down to. If AL shoots well, I think they win. If they don't, it's gonna be tough sledding.

Lincoln is the MRC champ, and was generally head & shoulders above the rest this year. That's new for them, as SC East and SC Heelan are usually the top teams there. Don't know much about CF, but if CBAL does what they should do, they will win comfortably. They would have to play poorly to lose this one...and, IMO, it would be an upset.

I've only seen CB Lincoln once this year, but I have seen both teams in action. The front court advantage goes to CB. Green played the best game I've seen so far in his young career to beat Linn-Mar. He showed something he hadn't previously done as a sophomore in stepping up and taking over in a critical game with the outcome on the line, possession after possession. If he can repeat that type of performance it will stretch CB's defense. A kid like Isaiah Johnson will likely have to step up on both ends of the court for CF to be successful.

Jelly--LaBeaux is one of the best athletes I have seen on an Iowa H.S. court in a long time. A freak. If he can keep his head on straight and start making smarter decisions off the court he has the potential to be a DI standout. Fagan is receiving interest from some latecomers, including a couple west coast programs. Although I don't know how interested he is in playing too far from home.

Idk if Fagan is willing to go to far away. I think his brother played football at UNI and I think he is good enough to play basketball there. He is close with his folks and selfishly I would love him to stay around. Give him a redshirt year and a freshman year to get stronger, improve the speed of his shot, improve his ball handling, etc. He has certain skills that can't be coached. What I find interesting is that Austin Pehl was a CF kid that went to UNI on a full ride and was half the player that Fagan is. The only thing Pehl had on him was a couple of inches.

As far as Labeaux, I will be shocked if he makes it to college. He played one game of football and then poof! Gone. He wasn't on the basketball team to start the year, ended up not dressing and sitting on the bench for the sophomores and now he starts for a team going to state. He won 2 state titles in track last spring and from what I gathered, he basically pulled a Willie Mays Hayes and just rolled out of bed faster than everyone else. At 6'3" and just built like a man, I think IF he can get his shit together, and that's a big if, his future is probably in track or football even though he is known for his exploits on the basketball court. I don't know if I have ever seen anyone dunk like him in Iowa...maybe Ricardo Tyree Davis?

No disrespect to Pehl, but agree with you on the talent comparison to Fagan. I haven't talked to anyone on the UNI staff about him, but I don't believe he has the lateral quickness to guard perimeter players in The Valley. He has the height to play the 4, but he would need to add some more good weight to be effective enough on defense and be able to rebound.

I know several DII Coaches that say LaBeaux could play for them right now. He is a legit DI athlete, but his off the court decision making is a huge red flag. There are reasons he didn't play much in either sport until now. I respect the coaches for making disciplinary statements (although district policy often ends some discussions before they even start). I've been told he doesn't necessarily like the contact in football. The kid could be a star in college and potentially beyond on the basketball court. Here's hoping he either surrounds himself with some people who will hold him accountable and steer him in the direction of good decision making. It would be a waste and shame for him to piss away a great opportunity because of immaturity/lack of discipline and focus.

Well??? Pretty good high school game I thought. CBAL has a good team but Fagan was the difference. Is the kid that made the long 3 from CB headed anywhere? He's a good player as is the big kid.

The AL kid is going to play baseball at Iowa. The big kid for AL is going to d2 Wayne State for basketball.
Very entertaining basketball game. Fagan was clearly the difference in the game and I thought he was the best player I saw all night and that included the Iowa City West vs Hoover game.
Tough way for AL to lose. It was definitely a foul that had to be called but really hurts with .2 seconds left. Would've really liked to see that game go to overtime.
I said AL has to shoot well to win it. They didn't shoot it as well as they can and it ended up with them playing from behind the whole game. The first 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter, AL missing layups that led to Cedar Falls run outs was the difference in the game if you ask me.

It was a very poorly officiated game. I was disappointed in that. I will just leave it at that.

I was impressed with CBAL. When they got down they weren't rattled. They kept fighting and had a good look at it. Bonner has very good feet. I don't know much about D2 but I can't imagine there are a lot of kids that size at that level. Defensively your guards did a nice job of denying AJ in the second half. He's a helluva player for a sophomore but credit to CBAL. They locked him up in the second half.

As far as Tra'Von...I am biased. I love the kid. He was a wing a couple years ago and after Abbas went down for us this year, Fagan often found himself handling the ball. I'm not convinced at 6-7 that he's done growing. But he has no left hand and a lot of work to do outside of the paint...which is the great thing about him. Add a left hand. Work on strength and shoot quickness. I think he is just scratching the surface. Again, I'm love the kid but I try to be objective, but he's the most impactful player I've seen this year. That includes Bohannon, McCafffery, Lane, Wade from East, etc. Fun game and thanks for the response.

I think that limb you're out on is cracking :)

Game was great to watch, battled back and forth all game. Ref's should have allowed that to go to OT instead of calling a reach-in foul with 0.2 seconds left allowing CF to win with free throws.

Looked like he did get his arm so it looked like it may have been right call. That being said I was pulling for CF hoping to see them play IC West. Should be a fun game for Iowa HS to watch. Got Fagan against Lane plus Connor vs AJ Green who is a very good guard for CF and only a soph. His dad is a UNI assistant coach. Green put up 30+ and game winning jumper in OT vs Bohannon and Linn Mar.
