I delayed watching the Iowa game last night to see the last five minutes of the #1 Purdue @ Rutgers affair. Rutgers had lost four of its last five, including losses to Lafayette and UMass and an 86-51 defeat @ Illinois in its most recent outing. But with five minutes to go, Rutgers only trailed by seven, so when they scored to cut it to five, I decided to see how it turned out.
Well, as you know, Rutgers kept fighting and took a one-point lead on Ron Harper Jr's turn-around from the lane with 13 seconds to play. But PU hit a short shot with 3.4 seconds to go that looked like it would save the day. Nope. Rutgers inbounded to Harper who dribbled just beyond midcourt before launching a hail Mary just before the buzzer. Nothin' but net. Rutgers upsets #1 PU. What a scene that was as the place went crazy. Really glad I stuck with that game before joining the Iowa fiasco.
But that's college basketball, and it's great. Happy for Rutgers and glad to see PU go down.
