Dang watching Chasson Randle makes me so mad. The kid is a great player and I remember watching him in high school as well. Always hoped he would be a Hawkeye, but I understand why he went to Stanford.

His coach said he will graduate this year and also have his Masters??? Holy crap who can do all of that in 4 years? The kid must be one smart Mo Fo. Hopefully he plays in the NBA. Hell of a player.

Its actually pretty easy to graduate in 3 years with undergrad then a 4th year for a master's. Take summer classes, 18-21 credit hours a semester. Take online classes that transfer. Advisors won't recommend it, but they and the school want your money.

Exactly. May be easy for a normal student but not an athlete who is short on time.

Randle is an impressive dude for sure.

Yeah I know of someone who can graduate from ISU in two years, due to ISU accepting the credits. Do wonder about Stanford being so agreeable to accept credits like that, though. Didn't someone say that ISU accepts them more than U of I? Thought I remembered that.

Yeah, I guess. I'm old so I don't totally understand it all. I've read stuff about kids graduating with a 4.5 GPA on a 4 point system and I say WTF? I smell bogus. Sounds like a participation trophy to me.

I went around and around with someone who once told me of a high school student getting a 4.2 in a CLASS. I asked if the school was set up on a 5.0 system? No? I then called, "Bu#$$%^&", and was informed it was from extra credit.

I just couldn't believe such stupidity. We weren't talking about a dumb kind, but certainly not one that was hitting the books. Basically the kid was rewarded for attending class and turning in all the work. I always thought that should be the minimum. So what point is there to really working hard at all?

We're all doomed. Start building an underground bunker and storing up fresh water and dried food.

I hadn't heard Bob Knight do color this season, and wow...brutal. Watching both of the NIT games involving Stanford, it felt like he had something against them. Also, his observations were totally off the wall. I know the guy was one of the greater basketball minds of all time, but he's currently functioning with about 10% of that mind.

I believe Randle was the top student in his class in HS. Have enjoyed watching him perform the last 4 years at Stanford. Would have been a great Hawk...Iowa would have gone dancing all 4 years if we landed him....ouch.

That 2011 class was a tough one. We just about lost Uthoff permanently as well.

McCaffery had been hired in April, put together a staff, visited Marble to keep him a Hawkeye, found a point guard in May that we were desperate to have in Bryce Cartwright, brought along Melsahn Basabe, and built up our recruiting enough to land:

Aaron White on 10/4/2010
Josh Oglesby on 9/29/2010

We never stood a chance with Randle. He visited Illinois and Stanford that October and before the month was over he'd committed.

Because of the turnover from Lickliter to McCaffery we were late to the game for Paige as well.

At least in TX, and probably most states, high school students have the option at many schools to take regular classes or AP (advanced placement) classes, which can apply toward college credits at many universities. Regular classes are on a 4.0 scale, but AP classes are on a 5.0 scale. Not all classes have AP level classes, but some students are able to take enough of them to potentially graduate with a 4.8 GPA and have almost a full year of college credits.

Many suburban high schools have a two track
level. Honor classes which are more weighted
for your G.P.A. and the normal classes. Kids
who are college bound and are qualified will
take the honor classes. If you a A in Honors
English, then you get more points than a A
would in a normal English class.

Bottom Line: Our family lives near a suburban
high school where 94 % of the Seniors last
year went to college.

Randle wasn't ever coming to Iowa. He was #1 in his Rock Island class and was going to an Ive League school or Stanford. If this didn't happen he would have went to Illinois because his family has been big Illini fans for years.
