18 incoming and 25 outgoing players for next season… I think Luke is definitely feeling the heat after going 13-13 these past few seasons. I am not saying they can’t turn it around but he’s got a mountain to climb to even get back to being respectful. If they keep to their strengths like running the ball and stop trying to vastly change their identity they could be a lot better as they just don’t have the athletes to do what Longo tried to do in his short tenure…

Back to the basics and they will be fine and they need to shore up that defense..

I just hope Iowa can get back to a tough defense next season.

Billy Edwards is the heir apparent at QB for Badgers I presume?

He had very good numbers at MD this past season.
Like at Iowa QB has been an issue for Badgers in recent seasons.
If Edwards is a hit, they could take off.

There have been rumblings from former players that came in with the old regime like braelon Allen about him. Mentioned a lot but the rich rod Michigan comparison is turning out to be true. To do a 180 on offensive philosophy to full air raid just seemed like a big risk and to fire a successful OC Longo around 20 games in reeks of desperation. Lot of turnover in skill position players.

Another under rated aspect is Jim Leonhard left as DC who was passed over for the job. Fickell is a guy who had never coached outside the state of OH and trending down the path of former non P4 coach (Cincy AAC when he left) home run hire who fizzled out.

They lost their defensive edge by not hiring Leonard as the head coach. And they screwed the pooch probably overall by not keeping Leonard who was such a great former player. Leonard would have hired a DC clone of himself and kept the offense at a tough unit.

He’s 0-2 on QBs. Tanner Mordeci came year when from SMU with big numbers and wasn’t putting up great numbers before he got hurt vs Iowa. Van Dyke same story but little game time before he got hurt vs Bama and now off to be a backup at smu. Locke backup each year off to zona. No clue skill position situation but wouldn’t be shocked to see Edwards #s drop from Maryland production.

Take a peek at their schedule. He could take off, and they still might go 7-5. Oof.

Iowa’s schedule is rough next year, but Wisconsin…ouch.

Not ideal for a guy that is probably on the hot seat.

A lot of wishful thinking in this thread. I’ve enjoyed beating WI the past few seasons and watching them struggle, but we all know in this day and age how programs can be turned around in a hurry. What some see as desperation I see as a team quickly moving to get the right personnel in place. What’s really funny is the same people complaining about Iowa’s lack of portal recruiting criticizing WI for bringing in so many players. They’re doing what they gotta do; I hope KF and company are, also….

Yet, if Iowa was doing what WI is currently doing you'd yell from the hilltop about how poor Iowa's evaluations have become and how much time and money we've wasted.

I remember a story about a city guy who started working for a farmer. The farmer had a big garden and he put the city guy on it. If the city guy watered the garden with buckets of water the farmer would say 'city guy isn't smart enough to use the hose'
If the city guy decided to use the hose to water the garden the farmer would say 'city guy is to lazy to use the bucket'

The OP is the farmer, perpetually b*tching, it is what it is for them.

23 recruits for the 2025 class. 21st rated class. 10 4 stars. I would take that.
Thats fine if you get another 3 years to see that class produce. But his ass is on the line . I'd like that class too when we got KF who will be here until HE DECIDES to hang it up.

They are bringing in so many because their hand is forced to do so because of how many are leaving including key pieces. Like qb, WRs, rb and just this week starting freshman CB. I get attrition after year one but year 2 with so many starters and firing your OC is not a good sign.

He's got all the answers.

Agree, and they CAN’T build a team if they keep losing.replacing:losing/replacing every year. It sounds like a toxic culture there with Fickle at the helm. I know that Braylen Allen definitely didn’t care for the coaching staff his last year … what a waste of talent trying to implement that slinging style offense that they just don’t have the right players to plug n play…

Here is tweet both of us were talking about. To me it sounds like once Fickell is gone I’ll tell you how bad it was. But right now I’m not going to make things worse for my alma mater with him still in charge

I love it. It probably doesn't matter as much to iowa fans as it used to but we do still play them every year for a trophy. Iowa and WI just don't feel like brother programs anymore. We've been beating them more often and have had more success the past 5 years, but 2010-2019 were brutal as a hawk fan in Wisconsin.

Fickel and the AD’s jobs are on the line. Badger’s schedule appears brutal next season too. Losing their long time offensive identity trying to throw it around has set them back terribly. Not elevating Leonard to HC, or keeping him as DC, certainly dinged the culture.

Tom Allen’s only good assistant coach hire his last 3-4 years at IU was getting the OL Coach Fickel let go, in Bob Bostad. Coach Cig had the good sense to keep him around and the IU OL was a pleasant surprise last season.

I believe Edwards has just 1 year left and will seemingly be QB 1. They also brought in a young qb from San Diego State, who played some as a true frosh this past season, Danny O’Neil from football factory, Indianapolis Cathedral.

Doesn't every team say that "If the qb takes off"? You must listen to the NB fans too much...

Them and Iowa lost everything when the Big Ten West went away.

The west allowed them to pretend to be relevant in the Big Ten. That’s over.
Lost everything? There were seven teams in the west. What did the rest lose? Everything plus?

No one lost everything.

What they lost was relevance. Iowa and Wisky were the only teams in the west to have any when the West existed. Now they don’t even have that.

How many years do you think it will be before a former Big Ten West teams makes the playoff?

Playoff is all that matters. Ohio St lost to Oregon and Michigan, which would have been enough to call for coaches to be fired. Now, they make layoff and win it all and they are god.

It’s playoffs or bust.
