NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team earned victories from five newcomers and scored bonus points in four bouts en route to dominant 33-6 win over Columbia in its season dual debut Friday night (Nov. 17) at Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.

Graduate students Michael DeAugustino, Shane Griffith and Lucas Davison were victorious in their Michigan debuts, while freshmen Sergio Lemley and Dylan Gilcher won in their collegiate dual debuts.

The Wolverines earned three straight bonus wins to all but clinch the dual victory at the middleweights. Graduate student Will Lewan, ranked sixth at 157 pounds, keyed the scoring surge with a 20-3 technical fall over Jaden Le, scoring five takedowns -- three in the first period -- before ending the bout with a four-point leg turk at the 4:38 mark.

Fifth-year senior Cameron Amine and Griffith followed with major decisions at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. Amine, ranked third nationally, also scored five takedowns and added a reversal in the third to beat Andrew Garr, 18-6. Griffith, ranked third, won 10-0 over Garrett Bilgrav behind two takedowns, two back points on a third-period arm bar and 2:06 in riding-time advantage.

Davison, ranked third at heavyweight, also ended the dual with big points, rolling to 19-2 technical fall over Vincent Mueller in the final bout. Davison scored two takedowns in the first period then broke it open with a 10-point second, highlighted by a four-point bow and arrow on the edge. He ended the bout with another double leg at the 5:32 mark early in the third.

DeAugustino also won in his Maize and Blue debut to kick off the dual, beating 21st-ranked Nick Babin, 8-1, at 125 pounds. DeAugustino, ranked eighth nationally, scored a takedown in the first period before reversing Babin to his back to break it open in the second.

Columbia earned its lone win with an injury default in a scoreless match at 133 pounds, tying the dual 6-6 before the Wolverines claimed the final eight bouts.

Lemley and Gilcher, both unranked just two weeks into their collegiate careers, earned ranked wins in back-to-back bouts at 141 and 149 pounds. Lemley defeated 33rd-ranked Kai Owen, 3-1, on a third-period reversal and rideout; he finished with 2:42 in time advantage. Gilcher won a wild one, weathering early pressure to defeat 19th-ranked Richard Fedalen, 4-1, in sudden victory for his first collegiate win. Gilcher scrambled out of two rear-standing positions in overtime and converted the latter into a single-leg takedown for the winning points with nine seconds left on the clock.

Senior/junior Jaden Bullock and fifth-year senior Bobby Striggow also earned consecutive ranked wins at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, after both missing nearly all of last season with injuries. Bullock defeated 30th-ranked Aaron Ayzerov, 9-5, with takedowns in the first and second periods and 2:13 in riding time. Striggow edged 28th-ranked Jack Wehmeyer, 5-4, with a late takedown and rideout in the second period. Wehmeyer evened the score with a third-period takedown but Striggow escaped and fought off another late shot at the buzzer to seal the win.

The Wolverines (1-0) will head south to Lawrence Township, N.J., to wrap up the weekend road trip against Rider on Sunday (Nov. 19). The dual is slated for 2 p.m. start at the Broncs' Alumni Gymnasium and action will be streamed live on ESPN+.

HUMBOLDT, Iowa – No. 10 Iowa State (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) made a statement against No. 18 Wisconsin (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) in its first top-25 dual matchup of the season by winning, 42-0, Sunday afternoon inside Humboldt High School.

Iowa State dominated the dual from start to finish with three wrestlers – Kysen Terukina, Casey Swiderski and David Carr – defeating top-15 foes. ISU won the takedown battle, 27-2.

It was just the second shutout in the series between Iowa State and Wisconsin, with the last being a 52-0 Cyclone win in 1922.

The dual's featured bout came at 165 pounds where No. 2 David Carr took on Wisconsin's No. 4 Dean Hamiti. Carr got in on a leg in the first period but Hamiti fended off the attack for nearly a minute before nearly getting a takedown himself. After review, it was ruled no takedown and the wrestlers ended the opening frame scoreless.

Carr escaped to begin the second and nearly earned a takedown in the period but Hamiti's length once again proved problematic for Carr and the Badger thwarted the effort. Carr pieced together a masterful third-period ride and finished with over a minute of riding time for a 2-0 decision.

At 125 pounds, No. 17 Terukina started hot with two first period takedowns and led No. 5 Eric Barnett, 6-1, after three minutes. Terukina added two more takedowns in the final period to complete the upset by major decision, 14-3. The Hawaii native was named UFC Fight Pass Most Outstanding Wrestler for his performance.

No. 18 Evan Frost took on Nicolar Rivera at 133 pounds and secured a 12-6 decision. Frost had two takedowns and a pair of reversals, as well as two minutes of riding time, in the win.

At 141 pounds, Anthony Echemendia rolled to a 21-6 tech fall over Felix Lettini in 4:15. The Cyclone had seven takedowns in the match, including four in the first period. It's Echemendia's third tech fall in as many matches this season.

A rematch from last season between Swiderski and No. 14 Joseph Zargo provided plenty of fireworks at 149 pounds. Swiderski secured a takedown at the end of the first period to lead 3-0 after three minutes. He added another takedown in the third to ice the victory with a 9-4 decision.

Cody Chittum used a takedown and cradle for a seven-point move in the second period to propel himself to a 15-2 major decision against Luke Mechler. ISU led 19-0 at the intermission.

After Carr's victory at 165 pounds, MJ Gaitan and Will Feldkamp secured back-to-back first-period falls at 174 and 184, respectively, to bring the gym to its feet. Gaitan countered a shot attempt from Luke Condon and put the Badger on his back for a pin in 2:25. Feldkamp, making his ISU debut, took only 1:39 to pin Shane Liegel.

At 197 pounds, Julien Broderson grinded out a 5-2 decision over Josh Otto thanks to a first-period takedown.

Yonger Bastida secured a first-period tech fall, 19-4, against Peter Christensen in 2:57. The Cuban snared five takedowns and capped the victory with four near fall points.

Today was a homecoming for head coach Kevin Dresser, who won two state titles at Humboldt High School in 1980 and 1981.

Iowa State is back in action Sunday against No. 3 Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Action gets under way at 2 p.m. on ESPN. Tickets are still available, here.

Am I misremembering, or didn't Wisconsin recently (within the last year or so) extend Bono?

This may be the year the Cyclones finally get one. I think were safe if we sweep the first five weights but if that goes 3-2 or even 4-1, were in trouble. I need MitchL to give me some words of hope.

First off...my oh my, how far has Wisconsin fallen?
And 1,500 fans???? WTF, they wrestling in some middle school gymnasium?

This looks like Dresser's best squad since he arrived in the town with superb water.
Realistically, Iowa is the underdog. Hawks probably need to win 149 or 197 to win the dual.
I got Iowa winning 125/133/141/157/174 if Gabe goes. ISU bonus point favs at 165/184/Hwt. Slight favs at 149 and 197.

Based on recent results, don’t think Ayala coming off his loss to #26 Kaylor will be favored vs. Terukina who just wupped on #5 Barnett. This board may implode during this dual.
