LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ– Rider University's Wrestling team was able to secure a trio of bonus point victories by Colton Washleski, Jake Silverstein, and David Szuba however the Broncs would fall to #RV Wisconsin 22-16. With the loss, Rider falls to 1-3 in duals and Wisconsin moves to 3-1.

Rider started the dual trailing 8-0 after back-to-back major decisions for Wisconsin. However, Rider would see their first win of the day by McKenzie Bell at 141lbs over Felix Lettini. Bell secured a takedown in the first period and continued to work picking up a point for an escape and a second takedown in the final period to cut the dual scoring to an 8-3 Wisconsin lead.

The Broncs continued to battle back following a loss at 149 by picking up back-to-back majors of their own starting at 157lbs with Colton Washleski. Washleski scored a first-period takedown and then added a second one in the middle period to go up 6-2 over Luke Mechler. Washleski would add a pair of takedowns in the final frame to take the bout by major 12-4.

The next Rider major came from Jake Silverstein at 165lbs. Silverstein would set the tone early scoring three points in the first period. The Broncs NCAA qualifier in 2021 kept the attacks going throughout the match adding one in each period to secure the major over Gavin Model 10-2.

David Szuba rounded out the Broncs' afternoon with a dominant showing vs Gannon Rosenfeld winning by tech fall 22-6. Szuba kicked off the match with a pair of takedowns in the first period. However, Szuba would kick into another gear in the 3rd period scoring a pair of takedowns in the final period to secure the tech 22-6.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana fought off an early deficit to take a dominant win over Central Michigan, 25-15, on Saturday afternoon at Wilkinson Hall.

The Hoosiers trailed 6-0 after the first two bouts but won eight of the last ten matches to secure a victory by double-digits. Three Hoosiers pulled out bonus-point victories, Dan Fongaro and Gabe Sollars each won by fall and DJ Washington won by major decision.

Washington and Graham Rooks also won over ranked opponents.

With the win, Indiana improves to 3-0 in duals on the season. This is the second season in a row where the Hoosiers have begun with a 3-0 or better mark.

KEY MOMENTS
• Down 6-0, Indiana was in dire need of a win, and graduate student No. 27 Dan Fongaro (141) delivered. Only up 1-0 heading into the third period, Fongaro took control against Ja'Kerion Merrit, taking him down and then securing a four-point near fall before pinning him. The fall (6:17) tied the team score at 6-6.
• Graduate student No. 13 Graham Rooks (149) earned his biggest win of the season over No. 16 Corbyn Munson in a 2-1 decision. Rooks trailed 1-0 after two periods and started on bottom in the third period. Rooks reversed Munson and held on to his 2-1 lead for the remainder of the match.
• Senior No. 9 Derek Gilcher (165) was in control from start to finish against Tyler Swiderski. Gilcher started out quickly with a first period takedown and added on to his lead with another takedown and an escape to win by decision, 7-2.
• Showing no fear, redshirt senior No. 10 DJ Washington (174) opened his match against No. 18 Alex Cramer with a seven-point swing in the first period as Washington took him down and had a four-point nearfall. DJ would score on another two takedowns en route to a 15-4 major decision victory.
• Redshirt sophomore Roman Rogotzke (184) had a back-and-forth bout against Cody Brenner that ended up with Rogotzke on top, 7-5. Down 4-1 entering the third period, Rogotzke evened the score by way of a second stall on Brenner, a penalty on a potentially dangerous call and an escape. He then took Brenner down in the closing seconds of the bout to earn the win.
• It didn't take long for redshirt freshman Gabe Sollars (197) to get the job done. Sollars pulled out a first period pin over Luke Cochran at the 2:54 mark.

NOTABLES
• Gilcher and Washington are both still undefeated with Gilcher being 7-0 and Washington at 3-0.
• All of Washington's wins have been bonus-point victories, including two tech falls and one win by major decision.
• Sollars' win was his fifth pin of the year.
• G. Rooks and Washington each took wins over ranked opponents. Rooks defeated No. 16 Corbyn Munson and Washington defeated No. 18 Alex Cramer.
• Indiana improved to 12-4 all time against Central Michigan.

Wisconsin sweeps East Coast duals | Wisconsin Badgers

PHILADELPHIA — On a busy Saturday of back-to-back dual matches at two different schools, No. 26 Wisconsin wrestling knocked down Rider to earn a 22-16 victory followed by a 26-11 win at Drexel.

Six Badgers each earned two individual wins in the duals, including Eric Barnett (125 pounds) and Nicolar Rivera (133) securing major decisions in both duals. Joseph Zargo (149) tallied an upset decision against Rider and a major decision, while Dean Hamiti (165) earned a major decision and a tech fall.

Max Maylor (184) turned in two gutsy wins with one earned in sudden victory against Rider and a come-from-behind victory against Drexel. Shane Liegel (197) collected a major decision and a hard-fought decision wrestling up a weight class. Hamiti, Maylor and Liegel all wrestled up one weight class on Saturday from their prior lineup spots earlier this fall.

Wisconsin at Rider​

Wisconsin jumped out to a 8-0 lead thanks to major decisions won by Barnett and Rivera. Barnett scored three takedowns at 125 in the first period against Rider's Tyler Klinsky for a 9-2 lead then later scored an escape and a reversal, earning a last point with riding time for the bonus-point victory. Rivera collected five takedowns at 133 in his dominant 18-8 major decision over Richie Koehler.
Rider's 141-pounder McKenzie Bell got on the scoreboard with a narrow 8-3 decision against Felix Lettini, who earned his points in the final stanza with an escape and a reversal.

Ranked No. 17 by Intermat this past week, Zargo earned a key upset victory of 12th-ranked Quinn Kinner at 149 with a gritty 7-1 decision. Scoreless after the first period, Zargo scored two takedowns and contained Kinner to earn the extra point for riding time.

Rider rallied back into the dual match with major decisions at 157 and 165 to tie the team score at 11 a piece. Wisconsin's upper weights then took control. Hamiti scored three takedowns and turned Rider's Michael Wilson for a three-point nearfall en route to a 15-4 major decision at 174. Maylor broke a 1-1 tie in regulation against Isaac Dean with a late takedown in sudden victory for a 4-1 decision at 184. Liegel scored 10 unanswered points in the third period against Brock Zurawski at 197 with an escape, a takedown and two near falls to earn a major decision.

Gannon Rosenfeld, a redshirt freshman for UW, earned his first career dual start at heavyweight scoring six points against his opponent. Rider's David Szuba, ranked No. 30 by Intermat, earned an eventual 22-6 tech fall to end the road match with a victory for the visiting Badgers, 22-6, over the Broncs.

Wisconsin at Drexel​

The Badgers picked up more wins on Saturday evening, adding an additional victorius bout at 157 pounds by Luke Mechler. After an earlier loss at Rider, the redshirt sophomore bounced back against the Dragons with a bruising 4-0 victory over Tyler Williams thanks to an escape, a two-point nearfall and riding time.

Barnett and Rivera both opened with major decisions to give the Badgers an early 8-0 lead again, a mark the team would not relinquish for the remainder of the dual match.

Zargo earned his own major decision with four takedowns and a reversal against Drexel's Dominic Findora, while Hamiti tacked on five of his own takedowns in a 15-4 major decision against Michael Wilson at 174.

Maylor's earlier success didn't seem like it would continue as the new Badger was trailing 9-1 to Jack Janda. Maylor then rocketed to a 17-13 come-from-behind decision victory with three takedowns and a four-point nearfall in a late third-period flurry of attacks.

Liegel scored the Badgers' final points after breaking a 5-5 tie in the third period against Ibrahim Ameer at 197 to score a late escape and take the decision.

Wisconsin will be on a small break for final exams and holidays, then the Badgers return to action at the 2023 Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern on Dec. 29-30 at NOW Arena in Hoffmann Estates, Illinois.

Camacho scored the first takedown for a 3-0 lead. After a McCrone escape, Camacho added another takedown for a 6-1 advantage. McCrone made it 6-3 with a reversal. A Camacho escape made it 7-3 after the first three minutes. An early Camacho takedown followed by a McCrone escape made it 10-4. A McCrone takedown sent the bout to the third with Pittsburgh leading 10-7. A McCrone escape and a Camacho takedown made it 13-8 with a minute left in the bout. Pittsburgh finished off the bout to win by decision, 14-9.

Solomon scored a last-second takedown to end the first for a 3-0 lead. Solomon opened with a reversal in the second followed by a D'Emilio escape to make it 5-1. D'Emilio scored a takedown with a minute left in the second to trail 5-4. Solomon escaped and added a takedown to lead 9-4 with two minutes left. D'Emilio got a reversal and a takedown around two Solomon escapes. D'Emilio went ahead with a late takedown to win by decision 12-11.

Gallagher scored first with a takedown just over a minute into the first before adding another around a Keslar escape to make it 6-1. Augustine took a 3-1 lead early in the first before a Kharchla takedown made it 4-3 Buckeyes. Augustine tied it at 4-all with an escape before a late Kharchla takedown put the Buckeyes back on top, 7-4 after three minutes. After a Kharchla escape and takedown, Ohio State improved the lead to 11-5 going to the third. Augustine escaped early in the third but Kharchla held on to win by decision, 11-7.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – North Dakota State wrestling fell to #12 Minnesota on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Maturi Pavillion, as the Gophers defeated the Bison 33-7.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – North Dakota State wrestling fell to #12 Minnesota on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Maturi Pavillion, as the Gophers defeated the Bison 33-7.

After forfeiting the opening match at 125, the Bison started strong in the next three matches, but picked up just one win with two losses coming in overtime. Fernando Barreto secured two third period takedowns to tie his 133-pound matchup with Jager Eisch, but Eisch picked up a win in the overtime period with a takedown.

The Bison picked up their first win at 141 pounds, as #29 Gavin Drexler secured a first period takedown and added an escape later in the match for a 4-2 victory over Ben Lunn. Max Petersen then took #21 Drew Roberts to overtime, 1-1 at 149 pounds, but Petersen fell on a stalling point, dropping a 2-1 decision.

Minnesota would then start a run of bonus point decisions, as #11 Michael Blockus picked up a technical fall at 157 pounds, as time expired with a riding time point to win 17-2 over Landen Johnson. At 165 pounds, #31 Blaine Brenner then secured a 9-0 major decision over Brendan Howes.

North Dakota State would claim the next bonus point decision, as Gaven Sax provided the upset of the dual as he defeated #15 Andrew Sparks with a dominating 8-0 decision in the 174-pound match. Sax had a takedown in the first and second periods, along with an escape and over three minutes of riding time for the final point.

Minnesota would then clinch the dual with a 9-5 victory from Devin Wasley at 184 pounds, defeating Adam Cherne. Minnesota would then pick up a pin in the 197-pound match, as #16 Garrett Joles turned Spencer Mooberry in the third period, securing the fall at 5:56. The Gophers would close the match with a win at heavyweight, as Bennett Tabor came from behind to defeat Devon Dawson 6-3.

North Dakota State will remain on the road and close out the 2023 calendar year at the Fighting Camel Duals on December 19 in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Bison will take on host Campbell (12 p.m.), Purdue (2 p.m.) and Stanford (4 p.m.) in a quadrangular at Gore Arena.

Northern Iowa openedthe afternoon with a pin at 125 pounds, and also saw top-ranked Parker Keckeisen (184pounds) remain undefeated on the season with a 20-point technical fall victory. Tyrell Gordonalso made his season-debut in impressive fashion, closing the dual out with his first pin in nearlytwo full calendar years.HOW IT HAPPENEDOpening the day up at 125 pounds, Trever Anderson took an early lead on No. 27/20 Nick Babinwith a first period takedown to gain a 3-0 advantage before extending his margin to sevenpoints with a four-point nearfall. Battling in the second frame, Babin made a comeback securingan early takedown and a four-point nearfall levelling the score at 7-7. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Columbia exploded for three wins via fall to take a 28-21 victory in the dual match at No. 19 Northern Iowa on Sunday afternoon at the McLeod Center. The Lions capitalized on six bout wins to earn their first dual match victory of the season.

No. 11 Angelo Rini used two takedowns in the first period to take control of the 133 bout against No. 17 Julian Farber. Farber tried to claw back in the second period, but Rini battled back with an escape point. Rini also controlled the riding time throughout the bout to finish off an 8-3 decision victory.

Rini's win sparked the first of three straight victories for the Lions as Columbia jumped out to a 15-6 lead as a team through the first four bouts.

Kia Owen came to the mat next for the 141 bout against No. 6 Cael Happel. Happel jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period before Owen was able to take control and pin Happel. Owen's upset win via fall (2:54) turned the momentum into Columbia's favor for the rest of the afternoon.

Looking to build on back-to-back bout wins, Richard Fedalen faced Cael Rahnavardi in the 149 bout. With no score early in the first period, Fedalen secured the second win via fall (1:15) in a row for the Lions.

Kyle Mosher secured the third pin of the afternoon in the 165 bout against Jared Simma at the 3:10 mark of the bout. With three wins via fall through the first six bouts, Columbia jumped out to a 21-10 lead over the Panthers.

Wins from No. 26 Lennox Wolak in the 174 bout and No. 27 Jack Wehmeyer in the 197 bout helped the Lions lockdown the upset bid over No. 19 UNI.
