4 to 1 in OT with some minor controversy at the end. Was very close and definitely could be reversed come ncaas (don't think they will meet up again prior).

Penn State still went on to massacre the Tigers, winning 41 to 3 (Missouri also lost to little rock tonight). Not a good looking team for Missouri this year, but Penn state may also have the best team in ncaa history this year.

Who knows, but they are outscoring opponents 268-9 so far and 6 of those points were against #1s, the other 3 were against a psu backup - looking pretty tough.

Jeff Byers, the psu announcer, thought they got it right. However it was close both ways . I didn't watch the match, but buyer said it looked like Haynes almost had a takedown and then all tool was given a takedown with that scramble.

Very close match.

It was very close, but I think they got it right. Levi had the double boots in, but KOT still had some control of the upper body. If Levi had enough control for the TD, KOT wouldn’t have been able to pop out the back so easily. I’m not sure they should have given the KOT the TD until he popped his head out, but he was one second from that, so there’s no way they were going to overturn that on the replay review. The biggest takeaway from this is that there is very little daylight between the two, so it could go either way if there’s a rematch in Philly. That whole scramble was college wrestling at its very best.

PSU has gotten to a level so far above anyone else that it's reached the point of boredom. Even the second and third best teams are looking at 1 or 2 wins max vs them.

Yeah. It was a silly comment that called for a silly response. Followed by a sillier comment, calling for a sillier response.
But, he really isn't wrong. It's all about perspective. Dominance over a long period of time CAN get boring. This can be especially true when it is a team you are NOT a fan of.

Now, with that said, is the PSU wrestling style itself boring? Absolutely not. But, it helps when you have a bunch of Michael Jordans and Steph Currys in your line up...

Only wrestling g fan who enjoy that are PSU fans. How many people enjoyed watching Iowa piss pound everyone in the Gable years besides Iowa fans. I don’t even enjoy our meets against far inferior opponents, other than they are less stressful.
I'd still pull for PSU. I lived in Iowa for a few years in the mid to late 80s. I would take solace in an upset or if one of PSU's guys over performed or maybe made AA or won a title. PSU was 3-1 vs Iowa in 1986 to 1988. It took PSU 10 more years to beat Iowa then 8 more years. Fun matches either way.

The cool thing about Iowa was Gable back then for me. I said it before here, he was my ( and our) Olympic champion prior to becoming Iowa's legendary coach. Made it easy to root for the Hawkeyes, at least for me.

nobody lost that match, o'toole got the W but haines comes away knowing he is right there with him. now you psters move on
Haines teched otoole a couple months back. It was in free style and shortly after otoole had wrestled and beat carr (who went on to beat Haines after he beat otoole) but I'd say he knows he's there. Having messenbrink as a daily partner has to help considering him and otoole trained together for years at AWA

True, KOT and MM trained together, but do not have matching styles to my eye. MM is all about aggression and pace, whereas KOT is a great counter wrestler. MM could certainly teach Haines all about Askren's counter wrestling techniques. Haines might be better off bringing in a Carr to train with for a few days.

The bout begins at 44:45

Thanks for posting! What a great match. I think O'toole wins 7/10 or so, he's just so versatile and hard to score on when he's healthy and in good shape. I think the only way Haines beats him at Nationals is by letting it fly and trying to get into a shoot out. The better scrambler is almost always going to win those one score matches.

O'Toole wins that 10 out of 10 times. Clearly the better wrestler. Definitely better coaching. Haines needs to find a different phone booth to make a call.
