I know there's a couple threads dedicated to this weekend's trials, but what are we going to be talking about on Monday after the Trials? Let's hear your predictions

1) Someone missed weight. (Marable 2015)
2) Someone pulled off a big upset.
3) Someone left their shoes on the mat. (Herbert, Dlagnev, Scott...)
4) Someone got absolutely hosed by the officials (Reader vs Ruth 2015)

Biggest upset, I'm going with Dierenger in the Finals. Not winning it tho.
Missing shoes....If they lose....Herbert, Scott, Dlagnev, Metcalf, Ruth, Varner, Dennis, Russell

I think your right on that. I wouldn't be shocked at all if AD made the finals. It'll be interesting to see if JB continues to 2020.

upset-I don't think he'll win it by any means but I think Nashon pulls an upset or two. Those doubles are lethal in freestyle. A couple 4 pointers and see ya. Last time he wrestled MCD he got crotch lifted 100 times so lets see if he's improved in that area.

Regarding shoes, I was at the last trials in Iowa City, and Royce had one of the best lines of the weekend. When it was all over, a group of us went to a restaurant for lunch before everybody flew back to their respective homes. We were talking about Cejudo, and people started speculating about whether or not he might come back even though he had left his shoes on the mat. Royce chimes in, "Nope, he's absolutely not coming back." He sounded so certain we all asked him how he knew. "For starters," Royce says, "he doesn't have any boots."

Here's my gut feeling as to who will be hanging them up. Not to say that they'll necessarily leave their shoes on the mat, because that has to be a bit premeditated and these guys all have winning on their minds this weekend, but I believe this is the last go for...

57 kg : Coleman Scott - he's a head coach now. Can't do both
65 kg : Kellen Russell - the sport has passed him by. Too many elite guys at this weight
86 kg: Herbert - he's already said this is his last shot, not sure if he'll compete after this one though
86 kg: Ruth - time to go MMA full-time, but he's still young. Who knows
86 kg: Gavin - it's time
97 kg : Bergman - see Gavin/Russell
125 kg : Dlagnev - I personally think he wins the spot, but since he has to wrestle through the tournament I don't know if he can hold up. If he does get upset I think he's done.

Gotta agree with Coleman 100%. They took his weight-class away, he has the head coaching job and he'd be getting up there by 2020 anyway.

I'd be sad to see Ruth give it up, but if his heart isn't in it maybe he does.

I'm hoping you're wrong about Dlagnev. He's the best American Freestyle Hwt we've had in a while. He wrestles a very "international" style and doesn't make too many mistakes. If healthy he's got a great shot a medal in Rio. If not, not sure who our 2nd best will end up being.

I agree So Cal. Dlagnev is by far our best bet at getting a medal at 125 kg, but his back has been an issue for a while. I'd be surprised if he continued after the Olympics (if he makes it). If he was sitting in the finals I think he'd be a lock. It'll be interesting to see how he holds up going through the bracket. Rey and Gwiz could give him fits and I believe Gwiz will be have a long career as the USA's big guy for the next couple quads.

Hazewinkel pulled out at 57kg so that's one less guy. If I had to make a pick at "upsets" I'd say it's AD to make the challenge finals I have him losing to Perry there barring they're on opposite sides (yes I'm agreeing with pyles and Smalls)

My finalist predictions
57kg: Ramos vs Dennis
65kg: Metcalf vs Green
74kg: Burroughs vs Dieringer
86kg: Herbert vs Dake
97kg: Snyder vs Varner
125kg: Dlagnev vs Gwiazdowski

1.) Will be interesting to see how James Green and Coleman Scott do with the huge weight cuts. Both are extremely talented but I have to think the weight pull affects their performance.
2.) Do not want DD or Ramos to draw Nahshon first round. I think he will have a big upset before the weekend is done.
3.) I think this is the last we see of Coleman Scott, Jake Herbert(if he does not make the team), and Ed Ruth.
4.) Could be anyone hope its not one of our guys.

I thought most people's opinions on Nashon was he was a "beast" because he didn't have to cut as much anymore at 133. He's going "back down" for this so.......................... we shall see I guess.
