By now it is a fact that the B1G/NCAA process for applying for a medical hardship waiver is an absolute joke. However, if Ott does win and receives a 5th year, will he be able to be 100% by the start of the season? He is rehabilitating 2 major injuries.

As for the answer to the final question the OP asked, I'll also offer my opinion which is a resounding NO. Players that come back from an ACL tear almost always claim to be fine, but then a 18-24 months after the injury they tell us "actually, I wasn't 100%, but now I am"...

But the evidence would seem to support the opinion.

Besides, the NCAA is too busy NOT penalizing basketball cheaters like Syracuse and North Carolina to deal with an honest request from a kid who plays for a football program like Iowa.

The NCAA is right there with Congress as one of America's most admired and honorable institutions. Just another opinion.

We shouldn't need him to start the season. If we can't get through the 1st half of the season w/o ott, I don't think it's gonna matter if we have him or not for the 2nd half.

If Ott gets the fifth year...he's playing by the 3rd or 4th game...in spot situations. By the mid of October he will be playing every down. Nothing medical to support...just going by the guy's heart. I've seen others come back in 10 months...I think he will do the same if the injury goes as planned. He will outwork this thing...it's his nature.

Remember Adrian Peterson came back with in 9 months and was better then ever..

To be fair Dr James Andrews (leading Dr for all things ligaments) said Peterson's ligaments were like that of a new born. The best he'd ever seen in an adult knee. Not saying Ott is different but Peterson may not be the best comparison

Yeah but if you take Peterson's on one end of the spectrum and mine on the other, which would be like dried, cracked rubber..........surely Ott is somewhere in between.

So that can only mean good things are ahead!! :)

Agree. That is like a dying man saying, "well Christ came back to life in 3 days, so I figure I should be fine in a week to 10 days tops".

That's not exactly true. Canzeri had a career high ypc in his first season back from an ACL tear.

Jordan tore his ACL in the Spring, so his 2013 was roughly 18 months after surgery, rather than the ~9ish that Ott is looking at for August.
