Eno Benjamin must be tearing things up this spring, because on rivals, he's skyrocketed from outside the top 250 to #103 overall, making him the fastest rising recruit in the country. He also bumped from being the #14 rb to #7.

Perhaps we can now put to rest the idea that if a guy commits to an OSU, his recruiting rankings arbitrarily sky rocket...and if he commits to Iowa, they arbitrarily drop. His meteoric rise occurred after pledging to the Hawks. Let's hope he can convince a stud QB, WR, or OL to join him on the offense.

Wow, talk about small sample size. I wouldn't put that idea to bed yet. But it's good that he's going higher, definitely doesn't hurt.

Michigan had RB Kareem Walker drop 178 spots last year on rivals, from number 3 overall to number 181. He dropped about half the way when he was committed to Ohio State because of early poor camp performances, then he flipped to Michigan and Harbaugh and dropped the rest of the way because he had a terrible postseason all-star showing. Plenty of guys at top schools drop in rating, it's always been a huge fallacy for people looking for something to be outraged about. The stars of the All-star games are more often than not committed to the top schools and they rise accordingly, it's not rocket surgery. How do these people explain Allen Lazard being a top 50 recruit? There's never been any truth to this ridiculous theory at all.

So, how does one skyrocket up the recruiting charts without playing any games? He looked good in practice?

There are tons of summer camps put on by the various scouting services like Rivals, the schools themselves, the shoe companies, etc, etc.

They just had the Rivals 5 star challenge in Atlanta last week:

Here's a rivals event in Texas Eno was at:
https://n.rivals.com/news/rivals-camp-series-hits-the-lone-star-state

Obviously the schools themselves have camps, and they all have "connected" recruiting analysts that are there and report on who the top performers were. Here's info from an OSU camp last weekend:

Nike has a huge series of regional camps called the opening where 16,000 participants are weeded down to the top 200 or so "performers" who all get invited to Oregon at a national nike camp, Adidas and other organizations have their own camps as well:

It's all year long these days, similar to AAU basketball, and that's not even mentioning post season all star games and 7 on 7 tournaments.

Oh, well, fine. But, besides all of this ...... never mind. ;)

Sounds like we really gotta start recruiting him now.
While I agree the staff needs to be treating him like they can't afford to lose him, he seems like one we don't need to worry about flipping. He's been a fantastic recruiter for Iowa and I think is really helping the staff get some traction in Texas.

Which proves how volatile these rankings really are. Camps are still practices. Plenty of players can look good in practice running different drills. Yep, as Allen Iverson famously said, "We talkin' bout practice."

For the record, I have every reason to believe this kid will be good. And would still believe that whether these "experts" had bumped him up or down a 100 spots.

Camp performance has a huge impact on rankings, as it's an opportunity to see the top recruits go head to head, so to speak, so not surprising to see big swings once the scouts can really start making live comparisons.

I have never been or seen one of these camps. Can someone help me out.

1. Do they go full contact, hitting, tackling in these camps?
2. Do they test all skills (40, cone drill, vertical, etc..)
3. Do they scrimmage at all in these camps (7-7, or full scrimmage).

Just curious.

For the Rivals and Nike Camps, they are not in pads so no tackling. It's drills, combine testing, and one on ones.

At team camps, like Iowa's going on this month, players are in shoulder pads and helmets, so there's more contact there in one on ones.

Eno Benjamin did very well at the Nike Opening Regional in Dallas and the Rivals Camp in Dallas.

Djimon Colbert also received a bump up - from 5.6 RR to 5.7 RR - in the new update after doing well at the Rivals Camp in KC.

Eno committed to a team that was 12-0 last season. Of course his ranking has improved.

I love recruiting rankings and all ... And I do believe Eno will keep his commitment to Iowa ... We know the big boys won't stop recruiting him. If a kid verbals to another school that means nothing to opposing coaches. It's sort of become laughable - kids committing, de-committing ... coaches knocking on their door even on signing day.

I remember the running back (name escapes me) who was "committed" to Iowa and then on signing day Harbaugh swept in and scooped him up ... Until the ink is dry, I try to not get too wrapped up in the mind of a 17-18 year old and what they may or may not do. Eno seems like a special kid (talent, and just a good person) and I hope we do see him in black and gold ... Go Hawks ...
