Every year I tell everyone I know that I don't put a title on an Iowa Team until the seasons over. I do not include bowl games as they are more of an icing on the cake to the season rather than something I can judge the team with but here is what I use as a yardstick.
11+wins Outstanding Season
* once every 4-6 years on average . Usually result of mix of good athletes and special team chemistry
10 wins Great Season
* once every 4 years with senior dominated classes-
9 Wins- Good Season
* years in which Iowa does well wins some big games but falls short in others
8 Wins-Average Year
* building block years- younger players
This team will define itself over the next 4 weeks. How will they handle adversity . My guess is that they will win 3 more games. I think the Illini and Nebraska will be wins but they will either lose at Purdue or home against Northwestern.
Will it be 10-2 and we can call this a great team that had opportunities to be considered an outstanding team but gave games away against Wisconsin and PSU but still managed to win division and go to conference championship game .
Will it be 9-3 a good season but lost 3 games they could have won .
Will it be an 8-4 season with some nice wins but not enough to make the jump to call it a good year .
What do you all think...?
