Over 90% of us believe in God and half don't believe in . . .

Actually, faith that there is a God, and even biblical faith is commanded as to be from evidence. "Blind faith" is something I never want to participate in.

John 20: 24-26: Jesus saith unto him, "Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed. / Blessed are they that have not seen / and yet believeth."

My faith in God is not limited by evidence.
That quote is only in the context that there was previous evidence given to them so that they should believe without seeing. Initial evidence is a huge part of truth faith. Even those written words by John are given as evidence so that we could have faith.

Jn 20:30-31 - Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. - (NASB)
The pattern in Scripture is that God would verify the words to His prophets with the evidence of miracles. And God plainly says there is evidence all around us of His existence.

Heb 2:1-4 - For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will. - (NASB)

Ro 1:18-20 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. - (NASB)

Here's an intersting quote to add to the thread, on whether this thread will become legendary.

No, because it isn't LEGENDARY. A year from now, are people going to remember that thread? Make references to it? Is it going to live in HROT lore for generations to come? Will we tell our kids and grandkids about it? No, we won't. Eventually it will dissapear and just be another grain of sand on the vast beaches of the HROT thread afterlife. - uiowa08

First, the book gives scores of evidence.

List some please.

Second, there are numerous logical arguments for God's existence, which have been used by famous scientists over the centuries.

Really? List some. Please, list some. I can't wait to read this.
I already alluded to one in this very thread, from the father of thermodynamics.

All these believed in a creator and are basically founders of modern science: Copernicus, Kepler, Faraday, Galileo, Maxwell, Newton, Boyle, Pascal and Nicolas Steno. It's not like these people had no logic. They had their reasons, whether teleological, cosmological, ontological, etc.

Just because people believe in god, doesn't mean that they have to ruin the scientific method to find things out about the universe. I doubt any of the people you mentioned looked to the bible for the answer to their questions about the world. They decided to figure it out for themselves using natural answers instead of supernatural.

Well, Phil, I'm waiting for you to bring that post on over. You'll be able to respond to this one.

The only thing it proves is that even the "educated" ones, aren't all that smart(especially in the science department). Over half of Americans don't know that the Earth revolves around the Sun and takes a year to do it.

That and most people are brainwashed from birth. Before you ever start school, you're being taught about Adam and Eve.

Yes but the half that do not know that are ISCC fans

The problem with you mindless idots is that you don't know how to keep your thoughts to yourself. Religion belongs in church and in your pin head minds. I don't want to see this crap on this forum. What does god have to do with Hawkeye sports?

Serious question?

For those who believe in a supreme being, a creator, or an all-powerful intelligent designer, it is not a breach of faith to speculate on HOW the Creator set about forming the heavens and the Earth. Neither Darwinism nor the various theories that attempt to explain the origins of the universe, including the so-called Big Bang Theory, are inconsistent with the Catholic Faith. In 1951 the Catholic Church pronounced the Big Bang Theory to be consistent with the Bible. In 2004, Cardinal Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI, wrote:

According to the widely accepted scientific account, the universe erupted 15 billion years ago in an explosion called the 'Big Bang' and has been expanding and cooling ever since. Later there gradually emerged the conditions necessary for the formation of atoms, still later the condensation of galaxies and stars, and about 10 billion years later the formation of planets. In our own solar system and on earth (formed about 4.5 billion years ago), the conditions have been favorable to the emergence of life. While there is little consensus among scientists about how the origin of this first microscopic life is to be explained, there is general agreement among them that the first organism dwelt on this planet about 3.5-4 billion years ago. Since it has been demonstrated that all living organisms on earth are genetically related, it is virtually certain that all living organisms have descended from this first organism. Converging evidence from many studies in the physical and biological sciences furnishes mounting support for some theory of evolution to account for the development and diversification of life on earth, while controversy continues over the pace and mechanisms of evolution.

Almost everything has evolved. It's in the design by God.
