I think it depends on weather. A real boiler like IL State last year and it could be under. I do think the NDSU game will do better because they will bring some people. Miami won't.

The first game is usually well attended because the weather is nice. It is the late November games against Indiana or Purdue where attendance usually starts lacking.

I'm going over for a couple of reasons:

1) Team finished 2015 on a sour note, but after a 12-0 start I really think the support this summer is in waxing mode as opposed to waning mode.

2) There is a lot of excitement around a healthy CJ Beathard, as well as excitement about the defense. In fact, the whole team only has ~4 question marks that I can think of - OL replacements, DE replacements, TE & WRs getting separation, and kicking game.

I think there is more excitement in this program right now than perhaps there has been since the 2010 summer?

I wouldn't pay money to watch it or drive 4 hours round trip to watch it, thats all I know....

I can atest to this. NDSU's football fan base is among the best if not THE best in the FCS in terms of traveling fans, and this is something they've established well before their championship streak. They make these games against FBS teams like mini vacations.

Tbh, if they ever played Northwestern or Indiana they would probably out draw their fans too. :D

(I know, I know...that's not hard to do, but still. ;))

I still cant get past dropping all those funds for a prime Rose Bowl ticket, all the travel and other money....and they are out of the game from play 1. Totally outclassed. Its hard to even take it seriously after what I watched.

I can't go because of a family conflict. I offered my season tickets at a golf outing the other day and the guys in my group were willing to pay more than the $65 a ticket. I ended up having them do a closet to the pin contest and no one hit the green, so we went to chugging beer. One guy in the group smoked everyone else, I ended up giving them to him for free.

You are a good man.

They also know how to tailgate. I've seen some totally badass NDSU tailgating rigs/mobile homes. Sometimes the tailgaters will even hire a band.

Here's what SB Nation thinks of this game:

"Saturday, September 3rd - at Iowa (12-2, finished #9 in final AP poll)
Oof.

Miami is going to have an uphill battle in its season opener, as it takes on a Hawkeye squad that got off to a 12-0 start in 2014 and returns its best player in the Thorpe Award-winning corner Desmond King. Iowa's talent up front on both sides of the line of scrimmage will cause problems for the young and developing lines of the Red and White.RedHawks lose."

SB Nation goes on to predict an 8-4 season.

I am liking that a lot of these news pubs are giving us credit for last year but are also like...."We just don't think you'll do that again".

Keeping us right under that radar where we like it......

Have to go with the over for 65K. Totally different vibes going into last season compared to this season. As long as we don't get a monsoon like 2011 opener I think with all the excitement being the first game Kinnick will surpass the 65K+ for attendance. Season tix and student ticket will also most likely have higher numbers coming into this season over the decreased numbers for 2015.

They brought a lot of people to Ames a couple of years ago.

Actual tickets sold will be over 65K. Butts in seats may not be. More ST being sold is why.

I'm serious Dude. I didnt go to 82,86 or 91. It was a once in a lifetime thing and it was soul-crushing to watch as a fan.
Agree, that game was pure embarrassment. Feel bad for the players, had to be tough to get whooped so bad on the field. I can say I went to the rose bowl, which is about the only positive I took away from going to that game.

Soul crushing? Wow. Seems serious this condition you have. It's Memorial Day right now. Why don't you check out the VA and see what soul crushing really can be. Priorities man. I have been to 3 Iowa rose bowls....disappointed? Yes. Soul crushed? Not so much. Frankly I felt worse for the kids at the BTC. I would suggest to TiVo the games and decide later if you want to watch.
