After seeing a lot of teams so far this feast week: I’m setting the over/under for big ten wins at 6. We just play at a different speed and play high school level defense after watching isu/dayton/auburn.
This will be the bottom of the fran era as well as the end.
Sorry I have nothing to be optimistic about.

Happy Thanksgiving to you sir!

I will give thanks for any BIG wins in excess of 6 which I fear may not come.

I have usually been skeptical that Fran can find a way to claw us to 10 wins but he finds a way to get there.
I hope I am wrong but I just not seeing it this year.
We have to get that NW game early to have a shot at exceeding 6 wins.

Impressive BIG teams so far:

Wis
Mich
MSU
OSU
IL
Oregon
PSU
MD
PU

IU looked bad vs Louisville but has talent.
RU is young but two NBA lottery picks.
Have not seen much of UCLA, USC,Wash, NW , Neb.
Minny looks bad.

Who can we beat besides Minny?

Everybody in the B1G. Will we , no but can we , absolutely!!!!

Over his Iowa career, Fran has always had a few Bottom feeders like Northwestern, Nebraska, Rutgers, Minnesota that he could count on to usually get two wins each. Rutgers for past few years has not been easy wins thanks to Pikiell who has proven to be a game changer for that program. Hoiberg is a better roster managing coach than Fran and Nebraska has moved towards not being easy wins. Minny has improved a lot with their coach. NW has improved as Collins as gotten program on a roll. This looks like an above average Iowa team by Fran-ball standards, but the competition looks to have stepped up. I will still go with 10 wins and I doubt it drops below 8. Fran may have a low Ceiling, but he is a high basement guy. I'm assuming Sandfort and Dix return to form. The way those two have played vs Washington ST. and Utah ST, Iowa would be a 6 win team.

O/U should be 8 and I'm taking the over.

Currently, Torvik projects us 9-11.

That 1st game vs Northwestern is big - really, really, really big. We absolutely have to win that one.

If we can go 1-1 on our West Coast trip, it would also be excellent. 2-0? Fantastic! Somehow go 2-1 or 3-0 at Northwestern, at Nebraska and at Rutgers, and chalk on the rest, we are easily dancing. I'm calling a sweep of the state of Indiana right now.

I have not seen enough of other B1G teams to have a strong opinion, but if we can stay healthy, we should be competitive against non “elite” teams. Freeman, Dix, Thelwell and Non Ball Hog Payton is a good nucleus. Harding is on the upswing and Traore, when back from injury, brings a badly needed dimension. Because we are better than most Fran teams on defense, I think we have a punchers chance at 9-10 wins. Floor is 7.

So PMac and Butler took down Northwestern yesterday. Let’s get healthy by Tuesday and be ready to go. First must win game this season. Ok I know it’s hyperbolic but need a good start at home this season, let’s go!

It's not hyperbolic.

If we lose at home to a #67 Kenpom team, that will instantly push us out of any reasonable NCAA discussion. We're barely clinging to the outside of that range right now.

Sure, iit will only be December, and there will be lots of opportunities left to get right but how realistic is that kind of thinking if you can't take care of a non NCAA team on your home court?

This is a must win game. They come up a lot earlier when your non-con is ISU and 8 teams in the 300s.

Fran schedules like old people f*ck -- nobody wants to watch.
