Sounds like my 20 year old son is going to move to Owatonna to take a Paramedic job. Anyone have any intel on the city or the Mayo Hospital there?

My wife's Mom was from there. She was an only child and her father owned the bank through the Great Depression.
It seems like a really nice place but sorry, that is all I've got. (bump).

I've heard they have 69 of these billboards just in Owatonna!

One of my Iowa roommates moved there many years ago. We haven't kept in touch, but he's still there as far as I know. Must like it enough to stay.

Is he going to be a contracted worker, or a Mayo employee? 20 seems young to be a paramedic. But, I’m old, I guess.
We’ve stopped there a few times when we leave IC late for drives up North. It’s a nice town with a few non chain dining options. Good state park about 15 miles away with good hiking. Nerstrand, I think.

Decent, blue collar town. Federated Insurance is the big show in town, providing alot of the desk-type jobs. Really not much unique to say about. Has a Cabela's if your son is outdoors-like. Good bullhead fishing in nearby Faribault. Basically the last decent sized town before getting to the Twin Cities, which is in striking distance if your son isn't afraid of bigger cities like some folks on this board. Don't know much about the hospital.

Spot on. It's not great, not terrible...it's just Owatonna.

Worked in owatonna off and on for a number of yrs. Cabella s is located there. Plus they used to have and may still have a pretty sizeable Somalian population there. Actually the Qeen of Somalia resided there for awhile. It s a real nice town lots of lakes around there plus a great golf course. Minneapolis not far away for flights.

Owatonna is a nice town. It has a surprisingly quaint and walkable downtown area and the surrounding area has most of what you need for day-to-day life (HyVee, Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and so on). But the bonus is that it's not totally isolated like some simliar towns might be.

It's only about 30 minutes east to get to Rochester for some larger city stuff. 30 minutes west to Mankato for decent college sports and other things Owatonna may not have (including a Pagliai's pizza!). 20-ish minutes north to Faribault, for a change of pace. And about an hour to Mall of America (as a wayfinding point for the Twin Cities).

No he will be employed by Mayo. He just graduated last summer and is on our local ambulance service. He joined our local ambulance service at age 18 which was the youngest ever to join. He now takes the most calls on the crew and has learned a lot and is ready for more of a challenge and a faster pace. He's a great young man and I'm very proud of him!!

I'd guess he'll get that faster pace. Our oldest is a medic on a Fire/EMS crew in a very similar sized town, and they average 17 EMS calls per day.

I’m glad others mentioned the Cabela’s store. Those and DTC stores are like my crack house.

Cabela's has really gone downhill for me since the merge with Bass Pro, not nearly as many good deals as I used to see.

You mean Waterville? 30 mins from Owatonna.

Bullhead capital of the world.

Went there once. It was literally fish after fish after fish within seconds of your bait hitting the water.
No way bruh... Faribault. Cannon River Reservoir at the eastern edge of Alexander park by the rail bridge.
