P-Mac

Did this change to the basketball board did I miss something. I have no idea who P Mac or Murray is.

PMac comes in for JoeW - Keegan comes in as part of the 4-5 rotation which is why PMac may enter the game before Murray

I agree. He’s the total package. Nice touch, aggressive, rebounds, very few turnovers. And plays sound defense. Very athletic. He’ll be a great player, especially when he gets a little stronger.

Fran thought Aaron White and Uthoff were 3's and neither was highly successful guarding perimeter players..white didn't have a 3pt shot so was worse than Uthoff at 3......both had their best seasons back at "4" their senior years. If PMac develops a consistent 3pt shot (jury is out), he can play some 3, but it pretty much means we have to play zone defense. Pmac has length but he can't keep up with guards on blow byes to basket.

I don't mind him getting alot of minutes (assuming it's not a close game down to the wire). KM and Pmac are going to be key players in years to come so more experience the better especially in games like Purdue where there really wasnt a huge threat of losing. We handled them pretty good

I actually like when they are both in together along with a big, and Weezy at #2.

this is the lineup that has had multiple runs this yearand took the game from. 13-11 to 21-13, a 10-0 run in 2:21 they was the lead.

this along with JoeT gives IOWA its best defensive look, while still having elite offense with Garza, Wieskamp, but also capable secondary scoring guys like PMac and KeMur,

this is their best defensive lineup and I might posit is better than the starting team....

You would think someone would have fixed his screwy shooting motion— absolutely no arc (Connor the same) , his elbow is out to the side, and jumps sideways instead of straight up and down . Neither will ever be shooters apparently

The one suprising think about the McC boys is the terrible shooting form. P McC looks like an 8 year old trying to heave the ball to the basket from the 3 point line. C McC is all wrist, no lower body and no squaring of shoulders.

P McC and Ke Murray play different positions and different roles. P McC is a good defender, a tremendous athlete, much faster, quicker and jumps higher than Ke Murray. Ke Murray is much tougher inside, has a very good nose for the ball and appears to be a much better shooter. P McC is in outside in player and Ke Murray appears to be an inside out player.

As I said elsewhere, while I am generally not a fan of multi player substitutions I think bringing Joey T, P Mc and Ke Murray in together is a good move. It immediately accelerates the pace of the game, usually to Iowa's advantage, and creates a very good trapping and pressing defense. Luka and CJ can handle the increased offensive pressure and, frankly, its not like Joey, P McC and Ke Murray are poor offensive players. P is more of junk baller but you can contribute points off rebounds, drives, etc...

PMac is much faster, quicker and jumps higher than Keegan? I find that a little hard to believe, but could be mistaken.

PMac is going to be a very good player in another year or 2 but he should only be getting minutes in blowouts this year
He has the makings of a great 5 year player. Wisconsin has done a great job of using players that way. I would like Fran to emulate that. I think he's closer after that catastrophically bad recruiting class before this current group, but when you have a program that isn't going to compete recruiting wise on the national scale you have to rely on disciplined players waiting their turn. If you do it year in and year out you can achieve success. The tools are there for patrick, he can be an outstanding player, but sometimes you have that guy that has the knack to make plays earlier on. Keegan murray looks like one of those guys.

Patrick started the season looking like a finalist for 6th man all conference but he’s not playing even close to that level now. He’s launching plenty of ill-advised threes and doing so early in the shot clock. On one hand, you gotta love his confidence but on the other hand it makes me question his basketball IQ as he should know that’s not his value-add to this team. I really think he could be a Nick Baer type minus the outside shot, so more of a hustle player that steals or tips passes and figures out how to get in position for rebounds, etc. in time he may even hit the outside shot like Baer could.

Started out the season (1st 4 games) 2-13 from 3. Last 4 games 4-7 from 3.

I don't think Pmac is better athlete in either jumping or quickness than Keegan. Pmac is longer.
He fell over his own two feet the last game.

Patrick scored 1550 points in HS. Were they all dunks and lay ups?

Good stats but not the point I was really trying to make ... He hasn’t been playing as well in my opinion. Maybe I’m off the reservation here, I dunno.

I get your point and not saying you are wrong just that the stats kind of contradict that he started out playing like 6th man of the year but lately taking ill-advised 3s.

Playing the point in the zone press takes some quickness and athleticism. Can’t have somebody who trips over their own feet all the time at that position. Patrick is pretty darn good at it. I think the best we’ve seen at it was Nicholas Baer. Wieskamp plays it pretty well but lacks the length of Baer or PM that make the over the top pass more difficult. I may be wrong but I don’t see that Keegan would be as good at it as Patrick. Not meant to be a knock on Keegan.
